Blurb: Attending his daughter’s holiday dance recital should be easy for pro hockey player Patrick Barnes. Showing up in a tutu, however, wasn’t exactly part of the plan. And yet the holidays get even more interesting when he bumps into Lee, the man he let get away years ago.
Ballet instructor Lee can’t believe who just walked into his studio. He also can’t believe how quickly the flare of attraction between he and Patrick resurfaces, despite the years that have gone by since they last spoke.
Once upon a time, they let opportunities get away. Is it possible they’ll now have the chance to pursue the spark that has come back to life after just one conversation?
Holidays are a time for giving, and neither Patrick nor Lee are about to take this particular gift for granted.
Review: When popular Toronto Maple Leafs hockey player Patrick Barnes shows up at his daughter’s ballet studio, ready to perform with her for Parent’s Day, the last person he expects to see is “the one that got away.” Especially while he’s wearing a tutu! Yet, there was Ashley—known to Jordan as Ash, her beloved ballet teacher—but always known to Pat as Lee. Pat and Lee were high school friends who, for various reasons, never became more at the time, but the potential was always there, under the surface. I loved this:
There’d been something between them since they’d met in high school. Nothing so lame as a spark, nothing so trite as sexual chemistry. It was more than that: a belief, a knowing, that if they were ever to become more than friends, they’d have something incredibly special.
The warmth and attraction that had always been there instantly rekindles, and it’s obvious that they both want to see where things could go. The chemistry between these guys was great. I loved how they picked right back up with their connection, and how enamored with each other they were. I also liked how the author handled the questions that came up, like how Jordan would feel about things, for instance, and also whether Pat would be able to be out with his career. With over a decade in the NHL, the majority of those years with the Leafs, Pat is well aware of how things work in pro sports, so he knows how important the decision is. I really liked how he ultimately decided to handle it, and the respect he showed Lee.
Ballerina Dad by Amy Aislin is fifty-two pages of sweet Christmas-romance goodness. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with a friends-to-lovers (though, they were sort of estranged friends) story between a hockey player and a dancer, anyway…but, throw in a cute little girl and a Christmas setting? I snapped this one up about three seconds after reading the blurb. Having recently discovered Aislin’s books, and pretty much adoring them all, I had very little doubt I would enjoy this one, too, and I was right. Another lovely addition to her growing catalog.
