Lisa: I’m so pleased to welcome author Lily Morton to TNA today to celebrate the imminent release of her new novel, Deal Maker. It’s so great to have you here with us, Lily! Let’s start by having you tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.
Lily: I have a witch-like cackle for a laugh. It’s so bad that my children used to ask me not to laugh during their school plays.
Lisa: What’s your favourite scene in Deal Maker, and what makes it a fave?
Lily: I think one of my favourite scenes is the one in which Jude decides to exact a little revenge on Asa, who has made some very hasty assumptions about his character based on him being a model. His revenge takes the form of answering Asa’s fan letters in a very unique way, and these replies can be seen at the start of every chapter. I love the scene because it shows how quick witted and funny Jude is, and we can see him capturing Asa’s interest immediately.
Lisa: If you could spend some real-life time with one of the characters in the book, who would you choose and why?
Lily: I think probably Asa. He’s such a big character – a gentle giant. He’s well-read and funny and sociable. I’d like to spend time around his kitchen table the way that so many other characters do, discussing politics and books and eating Peggy’s food.
Lisa: On the flipside, which character would you probably least get along with? Why?
Lily: Phillip – Asa’s ex. He’s the real life version of what Asa assumes Jude to be at first – money grabbing, petty and treacherous.
Lisa: If you could choose one of your books to be adapted for the silver screen, which would you choose? Why do you think it would translate well to film?
Lily: I think Rule Breaker because the snark and sarcasm between Dylan and Gabe would play very well.
Lisa: What’s the one book you’ve read in your lifetime that you wish you’d written? Why did this particular book leave such a lasting impact on you?
Lily: Frenchman’s Creek by Daphne Du Maurier. Jude’s affection for the book is mentioned in Deal Maker, and the Cornish setting features heavily in my book. However, in reality it’s one of my favourite books. It’s beautifully written and Du Maurier manages to effortlessly capture the melancholy and beauty of a doomed love affair. Her descriptions of an England where history and ghosts seem to be always just around the corner seized my imagination as a teenager, to the extent that I made my husband take me to Frenchman’s Creek while we were on honeymoon. Our lazy afternoon spent sitting on a fallen log over the creek stayed with me and found its way into my book.
Lisa: Star Trek, Star Wars, both or neither? Explain.
Lily: Star Wars every time, which could possibly be due to Han Solo. Harrison Ford was my first crush, and I loved Han’s slightly dubious past and sarcastic, world weary attitude.
Lisa: Thanks so much for being here with us to help celebrate the release of Deal Maker with you!

About the Book
Sometimes your mouth makes deals that your heart can’t honour.
Jude is a highly successful model, but a very reluctant one. His life is full of casual hook-ups with pretty men in glamorous locations, but it’s still empty. However, circumstances decreed a long time ago that this was his path, so he’s resolutely stayed on it and accepted his fate with good grace. He made a deal with himself and his hook-ups. Get in, get out and no ties with anyone.
However, an accident at home one night leads to him making a new deal and accepting the offer of help from an unlikely source. It leads to an unexpected summer of falling in love with a larger than life man and his child.
But by the end of the summer his reasons for not staying are still valid. Will he turn away? Can he?
Asa is a talented actor who has spent time away from the scene to look after his son. But now he’s back, and the last thing he needs are complications from the gorgeous man who is staying with him. Scarred from too many betrayals, he has no intention of forming a lasting tie with anyone. However, he can’t resist the beautiful man with secrets, and to his horror he develops feelings.
But a deal’s a deal and they said it was just for the summer. What can Asa do with a man who has forever in his eyes and goodbye on his lips?
