Lisa: Welcome to author Hailey Turner, who’s stopped by to chat with us today to celebrate the release of the fourth book in her Metahuman Files series, In the Blood. Thanks for being here with us today, Hailey. Let’s start right off with a question about the book: if you could spend some real-life time with one of the characters, who would you choose and why?
Hailey: Madison, because maybe that way I could catch up on the years of TV shows I am so far behind on. Also, she likes to make things explode. I’m always down for explosions.
Lisa: Let’s talk tropes: do you have a few favorites that you enjoy both writing and reading? If so, what are they and what makes them your faves?
Hailey: I think we can all agree that I really love hurt/comfort, especially after this latest book. It’s such a fun sandbox to play around in. Found family is another trope I absolutely love writing about in my books.
Lisa: If you could choose one of your books to be adapted for the silver screen, which would you choose? Why do you think it would translate well to film?
Hailey: I would pick In the Shadows because of the car chase scene in the middle of the book. My third book definitely has lots of fights and explosions to keep an audience happy. In general, I think any of my books would translate really well to the screen because of the action element.
Lisa: If I were to interview Jamie and Kyle, what would they say about you?
Hailey: Jamie would probably say I need to get more rack time. Kyle would say I need another pot of coffee.
Lisa: How long did it take to write your book, and what was the most difficult part of the writing process (i.e., dialogue, plot or character development, pacing, etc.)?
Hailey: This one took about three months of writing to get out the first draft, then a month of beta, read through edits, and a stint with my editor. So about four months total give or take. The hardest part this time around was making sure the timeline lined up correctly, as almost half the book takes place over the course of 48 hours.
Lisa: If you won the lottery, what’s the first completely self-indulgent thing you’d do?
Hailey: Buy a house. That would be the only way I could afford one in my city. *mournful whimper*
Lisa: If you could be any animal in the world, what would you choose? Why?
Hailey: Black Footed Cats! They are tiny but fierce, like me. (No joke, these cute, vicious little furballs are known to kill sheep. They’re only like, 5lbs, max. Viciously cute!)

To make matters worse, his father’s political campaign is ramping up and Jamie’s every move is being watched by the media. He is acutely aware of all the eyes trained on him, his team, and Staff Sergeant Kyle Brannigan in particular. Staying out of the spotlight becomes impossible when their families are threatened and vital choices about their future together can no longer be ignored.
Desperate measures.
Staff Sergeant Alexei Dvorkin and Agent Sean Delaney are enjoying their time together as a couple when Sean’s past catches up with him. As Alpha Team’s long-running mission gets derailed in the worst way possible, Alexei discovers the enemy is playing for keeps, and neither he nor Sean are in any position to beat the odds and win the game. As for Sean, he’s worried that even if they make it out alive, Alexei may never forgive him for giving into the enemy’s demands.
Stand your ground.
Manipulation is the name of the game, but Jamie is done playing by everybody else’s rules. So is the rest of Alpha Team, because if there’s one thing Jamie’s team knows? It’s that they’re a family—and you don’t mess with family unless you want to get hurt.
