Blurb: Detective Cade Lawson believes in justice. But when a serial killer targets pedophiles and child abusers, lines tend to get blurry. When the serial killer strikes in Cade’s city, along follows the uptight and handsome Detective Cole Banks. Cole comes with a truckload of baggage and a hell of an attitude, but Cade is instantly attracted to him.
Cole has been trying to catch the serial killer the media dubbed “The Executioner” for almost two years. He hopes the new development in the case will provide the break he needs to catch the killer. Unfortunately, once in Baltimore, he must join forces with the alluring and absolute pain-in-the-ass, Detective Cade Lawson. Sparks fly and not just the good kind as they struggle through their case.
As their attraction burns hotter with each day, false alibis and dark secrets threaten not just their case but also their fragile relationship. Can Cade’s lively personality and his unwavering trust and faith in Cole push him back into the confines of humanity, or will Cole run to safety the first chance he gets?
Review: Chocolate loving Detective Cade Lawson works for the Baltimore police department. He’s not too fond of being served up on a silver platter to the Fairfax PD, and he doesn’t necessarily like the idea of working with Detective Cole Banks, but when the case of a serial killer who targets pedophiles makes its way to Cade’s backyard, he doesn’t have much of a choice.
Cole is a former Marine/Black Raider who still has a very special connection with the men from his past. With the new clues that have come to light in the investigation of ‘The Executioner’, he has no choice but to work alongside Cade, and finds himself heading to Baltimore.
Cade and Cole rub each other the wrong way from the get-go. Cade is snarky and is a thorn in Cole’s side. Cole is more serious and tries hard not to lose control around Cade. Both guys do have a few things in common, though. Neither is looking for a commitment. They’re married to the job and have the same goal—justice. Even as a unique chemistry grows between them, and their case becomes more dangerous and horrifying, the question remains, will they be able to trust each other?
Author Ana Night has constructed a rollercoaster ride of a serial murder mystery in which the murders are not the only thing to keep you guessing. The Police, the FBI, the CIA, special operatives and even the mob factor into this crazy mix of a plot—just who is working for whom?
It took me a little bit to get into Cade and Cole, but the more I saw into their personal and emotional stories, and their secrets were revealed, I really liked them. There’s an abundance of secondary characters who give the storyline a nice balance. Marco and Neil’s connection really piqued my interest, and I want more of their story. With all the characters and twists that are delivered in this first book, I see a lot of potential in The Black Raiders series, and I hope there is a sequel coming soon.
