Tattoo Volume Two: An Interview with Author Piper Kay

Lisa: We’re so pleased to welcome author Piper Kay to TNA today to chat with us about her latest release, Tattoo Volume Two, the newest addition to the Twisted Cherry series. Thanks for being with us! Let’s start by having you tell us a something about yourself that most people don’t know.

Piper: I’d never read a book in my MM genre and wrote two books before I discovered what it was.

Lisa: Would you care to share a favorite excerpt from one of your books with us?

Piper: Oh, this is a hard question, I have so many from every book I write. One of my many favorite scene’s is in Payce’s Passion, book two of The Passion Series. I love the cocky attitude through this whole chapter. It’s Chapter Three. You’ll have to tone it down, though, and remove certain words I’m sure.

The Excerpt: My hips grind into him, as I tighten my grip on the back of his neck, shoving him face first against the wall. I slither my tongue down his neck pressing my bare chest against his naked back. His skin is soft and smooth, fuck yeah. With my boot, I kick his feet apart, and slide my fingers down his arms, the tickle causes him to erupt in chills. As I reach his wrists, I clamp my hands around them, and pepper his back with kisses.

The combo of his cologne and sweat tingle my tongue as I lick up to his shoulder. I stop to inhale his aroma, gliding the tip of my nose under his hairline and gently nibble at the back of his neck. Goddamn, he smells so fucking…fuckable.

He relaxes to my touch and I love it, because that’s when I can catch him off guard. I jerk his arms straight up in the air, turn his wrists and slap his palms against the sheetrock. He turns his head and lets out a gasp.

“Don’t fucking move.” And I release his wrists.

He complies.

Lisa: If you could spend some real-life time with one of the characters in your books, who would you choose and why?

Piper: I think I would choose Hunter in Battered and Bruised, but not broken; a story I co wrote with a good friend of mine. Why? Well, Hunter is damaged, and just needs to be loved and understood. I could so do that.

Lisa: On the flipside, which character would you probably least get along with? Why?

Piper: Aaron in the Passion Series, because he is a complete lunatic. No way we could get along at all.

Lisa: Have you ever created a character so despicable that even you hated them and can’t believe you made them up? If so, who was it and what made them so awful?

Piper: Same answer as above. Aaron. I mean this guy-OMG. I couldn’t even find a way to redeem him and I tried so hard. Nope.

Lisa: Let’s take off your author cap and put on your reader cap for a moment: what do you look for in a book, what sort of protagonists do you love, and do you have a favorite genre/sub-genre?

Piper: I love a protagonist that is strong, may have been through rough times, but comes out fighting for what’s right. Follows his heart and gut instincts. Stands up for himself, even if he has to learn how.
I love reading the MM genre, but I also love paranormal just as much. I wish I could write it, but I don’t have that gift the PRN authors do.

Lisa: Describe your ideal fantasy writing environment—the beach in Monaco, a sidewalk café in Paris, a thatched cottage in the English countryside—wherever you can dream of.

Piper: If I had it my way, it would be outside in a forest near a creek or river. I’m a country girl and would probably be fishing at the same time. HA.  I love nature. It puts you in touch with reality, plus fresh air and sunshine. It’s good for the soul.

Lisa: If I were to interview Gabe, what would he say about you?

Piper: Wow. Ummm…If you were to interview Gabe from my Tattoo: Twisted Cherry Romance Series, he’d probably say: “It’s about time you gave me a back story, what took you so long, woman?”

Lisa: How long did it take to write your book, and what was the most difficult part of the writing process (i.e., dialogue, plot or character development, pacing, etc.)?

Piper: On all of my books, they take different amounts of time to write. Some come very quick, others take forever, because I have a bipolar muse who likes to play in my head with them. Sometimes they go silent on me, other times I get ten of them all talking at the same time. It’s not safe in my head, I tell you. LOL

Lisa: What would you say was the most intimidating thing about publishing your first novel?

Piper: I had no idea what I was doing. Scared of rejection, being laughed at, told I sucked, etc. All the insecurities almost kept me from doing it. ALMOST!

Lisa: What’s the best piece of writing/author advice you’ve received that you’d pass on to someone else just getting started in the business?

Piper: Just put pen to paper and write, forget the rest of it for now, it’ll come when you’re ready.
My best advice to someone new is to follow your heart. Watch your characters and let them tell the story for you, because they will if you make the time for them.

Lisa: Let’s pretend you’re taking a road trip, and you can choose any three of your characters to go with you. First, who would you want on the ride-along, and why them?

Piper: I’d have to bring Sparky from The Passion Series because he’s hysterical, then next I’d have to bring Kade from Invicta Series and Lance from Eight Second Cowboy Series.

Second, who would be most likely to: *Have to hit every rest stop bathroom: Lance from Eight Second Cowboy Series

*Whine about how long it’s taking to get where you’re going: Definitely Sparky (Passion series)

*Break wind with the windows rolled up: That’s a tie, either Lance or Sparky

*Flip incessantly through songs on their music app: Kaiden from Invicta Series

Lisa: If you were stranded on a desert island, what are three things you’d absolutely have to have?

Piper: Computer, books and either a lighter or knife

Lisa: If you had to choose between becoming a superhero or supervillain, which would you choose and why?

Piper: Super villain turned HERO

Lisa: What would your superpower be?

Piper: Power to show the positivity, even in our world of negativity.

Lisa: If you could be any animal in the world, what would you choose? Why?

Piper: A dog, they are loyal and sense things when other animals don’t.

Lisa: If you could travel back in time, with all your years of experience and wisdom intact, what advice would you give to your teenage self?

Piper: None, she wouldn’t listen anyway. HA!

Lisa: Thanks again for hanging out with us today, Piper, it’s been fun!

About Tattoo Volume Two

I was seven years old when my life spun out of control. When you’ve got a big mouth and a trigger-tongue like mine, life can be a real bitch. I use words like weapons and don’t worry about who I hurt, so long as they don’t hurt me. At least I did, until I met Evan.

That man turns me upside down and inside out. I just have to figure out if I can handle him or need to cut him loose. I don’t know what to do anymore…
