Guest Post and Giveaway: Ice On Fire by GR Lyons

Welcome to author GR Lyons and the tour for his new novel, Ice On Fire, book one in the Treble and the Lost Boys series! We’re so pleased to share his guest post and giveaway with you, so be sure to check out all the details below!

For the Love of Trilogies

I adore trilogies. There’s just something about three connected stories that just works for me. Even my Shifting Isles series—which will be fourteen books total once it’s finished—runs in sets of trilogies in my mind: books 1-3 focus on the Tanasians (characterized by their telepathic abilities), books 4-6 center around the Shyford family, books 7-9 have main characters who are all Falsiners (a primitive culture, though this particular family have learned to adapt to the modern world), books 10-12 bring to a head the prophecy that has been hinted at throughout the series, leaving books 13 and 14 as a sweet little duology to wrap things up.

With my first book, The Lethean, once someone suggested I write a sequel, I knew right away it needed two sequels: having The Lethean set in the past, my mind instantly went to a second set in the present and a third set in the future, but all three stories connected by the same family line. As for Matchmakers, the three stories seemed to all spring up at once in my head and I had to work a bit to connect them, not deciding until I was partway through the writing process that Chance Whitaker in the first book would be related to Shain Ahren in the second, though I knew all three would be linked by the setting—the Matchmakers nightclub—and its owner, Danny Berringer.

When it came to the Treble and the Lost Boys trilogy, I knew I wanted three connected stories that get increasingly dark. The trilogy had originally been called simply Lost Boys, and I thought it was the rescued boys that would be the focus. In writing the stories, however, it quickly became apparent that it wasn’t so much the rescue and recovery of the lost boys so much as the growth of the rescuers themselves.

And the rescuers are all part of a band called Treble. The name had originally been a sort of throwaway placeholder, since I hadn’t actually decided on the band name, until it occurred to me just how fitting the word was.

Treble. Three. Go figure. (And I won’t admit how long it took for me to make that connection. Idiot genius, I tell you.)

Blurb: Zac Cinder is on the verge of making his dream come true. His punk rock band, Inferno, might have a shot at an audition for a record deal. Fame and fortune would mean he could finally help his parents. They’d raised eight kids in a loving household while barely scrapingby, so Zac is determined to give back in any way he can.

Keeping Inferno together, though, means keeping his biggest secret. His bigoted bandmates would drop him in an instant if they found out Zac was gay.

Then he meets Adrian Frost, and Zac can’t resist the shy man. Adrian gives up everything to be with Zac, but Zac can’t bring himself to do the same. He doesn’t want to lose Adrian, but he can’t give up Inferno, either. Not when he’s so close to realizing his dream.

When one cruel decision rips Adrian from his life, Zac will have to decide if ambition is worth the price of the greatest happiness he’s ever known.

(Note: This story takes place in a fictional world, the same as in the Shifting Isles Series. There are multiple gods, different names for the days of the week, etc. A glossary is included.)

WARNING: Contains scenes of self-harm that may be disturbing for some readers.
