Blurb: What would you do if you rang your best friend’s doorbell … and a stranger answered?

Evan Romer is astonished when he stops by his friend’s apartment and finds Ty Mitchell in the shower instead. Turns out Ty has swapped houses with Evan’s friend and is spending two weeks in San Francisco, a long way from his country home in South Carolina.

Unable to deny the attraction between them, Evan offers to show Ty the town and romance blossoms. Ty wants to keep things casual, but Evan is falling in love fast. Will romance blossom before it’s time for Ty to head back?

Review: Well, dangit. That didn’t turn out quite how I’d hoped it would. Maybe I was simply hoping for too much out of such a short story? But, I don’t want to blame it on the length… I’ve read stories that were even less than forty-four pages that I did find satisfying, so I don’t think it’s wrong to have hoped for more than was delivered here.

Summer Swap: Evan and Ty by J.D. Ryan did start out on a high note. I liked the little bit I was able to gather about Evan, i.e., he was a successful game programmer, living in San Francisco, and a very sweet guy. I enjoyed the setup: Evan letting himself into his best friend’s apartment, to find Lucas has swapped houses for two weeks with a hunk from South Carolina. And, I liked getting a glimpse of all the San Francisco highlights while Evan played tour guide to Ty as they got to know each other. Ty seemed quite charming initially, and I liked the beginnings of their fling. There was definitely attraction there—they decided to try a casual, short relationship, just for the two weeks Ty would be in town—but, they were also quite cute together and seemed to really enjoy each other’s company, etc.

But, unfortunately, in the second half things went downhill. There was a fairly clichéd and, in my opinion, unsexy sex scene. And then Ty started acting all arrogant and ‘concerned’ about Evan, throwing around the “hey man…I’m worried about you…don’t go getting all attached…I don’t want to break your heart” business. Though, to be fair, Evan totally did start doing the crazy, insta-love, headfirst dive into the situation. All of this culminated in Evan having a completely melodramatic breakdown, only to find out that, of course, Ty was also falling for him (Not that he showed that on page. At. All.), and wanted to have a real, long-term relationship.

So, to sum up, I picked this up because the cover was cute, and I had a little ‘Awwwwwww…San Francisco!’ moment, having just visited there last month. I did enjoy the SF stuff, and the first half was cute, but then it sort of fell apart. Oh well…you can’t win ‘em all!
