Blurb: When Bryce Weyland agrees to go to a comic convention dressed as a superhero, the last person he expects to see is his one-time best friend (and hopeless crush), Clark Kenmore. But Clark is impossible not to notice—he’s wearing spandex tights, a rainbow cape, and the same disarming smile that haunts Bryce’s dreams.

Five years ago, they shared an ill-advised kiss that torpedoed their friendship. But now Clark has returned to Portland, and he wants nothing more than to return to the easy friendship that defined their college years. But the glowering Bryce makes it clear Clark’s mission is going to require a super-human effort—and more than a little luck.

Review: I absolutely LOVED this story. I can’t believe I’m so tardy to the party with this one. Released almost exactly three years ago as part of the Goodreads M/M Romance Group’s Love is an Open Road event, Waiting for Clark is an adorable and well-written friends-to-lovers and second-chance romance about two best friends finding their way back to each other after a five year separation.

After college, both time and distance separated Bryce Weyland and Clark Kenmore (I see what you did there, Annabeth) after Clark was awarded a coveted Rhodes Scholarship and moved away from Oregon, leaving Bryce behind. During the time Clark was away, Bryce cared for his ailing father, opened a bar with a couple of their college friends, and opened his house to said friends and other strays, all while Clark was gaining a bit of notoriety as a brilliant mathematician. And, of course, neither one of them forgot or ever got over their one shared kiss a month before Clark left school.

Waiting for Clark is clever, sexy, sweet, fun, and about a hundred pages too short! Heh. I kid. It’s actually exceptionally well fleshed out for a short novella. The character development is excellent, and I was totally feeling both their friendship and their romance. Their connection is utterly palpable throughout the entire story. I loved their backstory and how perfectly Albert laid out what the guys meant to each other during college. I loved all the comic con, cosplay, nerdy, hipster stuff, and I loved all the settings and how detailed Albert is with everything. In short, I loved it all.

If you haven’t read this one yet, do yourself a favor…go grab it right now. It’s so wonderful. I’m beyond glad I finally got to it. It was a great prompt, and Albert knocked it out of the park. 😊

  1. For whatever reason that WordPress STILL hasn’t answered, I’m unable to “like” anything now, despite having an account with WordPress for years. So, I’m going to comment that I liked your review, and have bumped this up on my TBR mountain. Thanks for giving enough info to intrigue and not too much to spoil; no easy feat I’m sure. 😁
