He’s having even more trouble believing Nick Hollybush is a heartless criminal, despite the result of a bizarre line-up, and all the practical evidence mounting up. Especially with Nick’s sparkling eyes, the shy smile in Jacob’s direction, and their obvious chemistry.

How on earth is Jacob going to juggle the duties of a copper against the romantic desires of an ordinary man—and still keep the village’s Christmas celebrations safe?

Review: Clare London has composed a charming little confection with a message, in which Nick Hollybush attempts to distance himself from his troublesome family and their felonious ways, and is afforded a little help from his neighbors in the bargain. And perhaps is even given a little boost from an understanding and altogether smitten Sargeant Jacob Carter.

This story is short and lacks the bluster of a more complex romance; nor does it rely on the Big Misunderstanding to resolve itself. Instead, while the temptation to jump to conclusions is certainly there, Jacob follows his instincts, and maybe his heart too, to allow Nick his moment of confession.
