At a Glance: Morton had me rooting for Clem and Harry all the way through, and I loved that she did so with little fuss and no bluster. Strawberry Moon is plainly and simply charming.

Blurb: Clem has been in love with Harry since he walked into Harry’s bookshop and saw his Heathcliff curls and poet’s face.

That love has only grown stronger over the years of working for him, but unfortunately, Harry has never noticed. He considers Clem to be far too young for him and seems set on dating a never-ending line of unsuitable men.

Then Clem’s fortune changes. Harry needs a fake boyfriend to attend a family wedding, and Clem immediately steps up for the job. He has one weekend to change Harry’s mind and make him see that Clem could be the real thing for him.

Review: If you’re looking for a short, sweet, summer read that places its tropey tongue firmly in its romantic cheek, look no further than Lily Morton’s Strawberry Moon.

Morton uses a clever little twist to deliver this story to its inevitable conclusion, when Clem puts the plan his grandfather cooks up into motion. Why not use a romance novel as the blueprint for . . . well . . . romance? The instructions are right there, after all. And where better than a bookshop for two people to meet and fall in love?

This story gives fake boyfriends, just one bed, secret pining, and an age gap to fulfill its promise of a happy ending to readers. Morton had me rooting for Clem and Harry all the way through, and I loved that she did so with little fuss and no bluster. Strawberry Moon is plainly and simply charming.
