Review: Since Whiskey and Wry has been previously reviewed by our very own talented Tina, I’m not going near her fabulous review. Instead, I’m reviewing just the audio version of Whiskey and Wry, which is voice, characterizations, and presentation. For me, this is what makes or breaks an audio version of any story.
I’ve mentioned once before that when I read a story, my imagination turns it into a movie. It flows, it moves, I can picture the characters, but with an audio version I have the added bonus of the voices that go with the characters and story. Tristan James is a ten, no doubt about it. The man has a voice that could melt butter. ~Sighs~ Nothing compares to listening to a sexy voice in action, especially in a romance! Let me tell you, I hung on every word Tristan James uttered, and found myself picking up on more of the humor and the story line than I had when I previously read Whiskey and Wry on my own.
Tristan James’ voice characterizations were rather well done, from Sionn’s lilting Irish to Damien’s British accent, especially while, during a heated scene between Damien and Sionn, Damien’s accent comes out stronger. The pillow talk with Sionn just curls my toes!
James’ is a voice that subtly changes, that draws you in and lets you know more than one conversation is going on. While listening to Tristan’s voice morphing into Parker’s sick, twisted mind…well…let’s just say I was properly creepy-crawlied out. But it was Tristan’s interpretation of the patriarch of the family, Donal, that caused a little hitch in my chest. While they were at the hospital, it was so sweet how Donal was speaking to Damien with that melodious Irish voice!
If I had a choice between reading and listening to Whiskey and Wry, the audio wins! And I hope Tristan James continues as narrator with any future Sinner’s Gin books. It’s a 5 Star recommend listen.
