Two Men Work To Keep Their Head Above Water In Kade Boehme’s “Keep Swimming”

“Well that’s what my philosophy is in life. Life’s gonna give you shit. So you can either let it drown you, or you can keep swimming.” – Kade Boehme (Cary in Keep Swimming)

Blurb: After his partner dumped him with a pregnant surrogate four years ago, Cary Whitmore was forced to play single parent while starting up a new business. With the dog bakery now semi-successful and his son healthy, Cary thinks he may be ready to date again.

Heath Cummings is trying his damnedest to get his charter boat service off the ground and dreams of one day soon being able to quit his job as an offshore driller. Paying off his dream requires making it through a couple more years, which means being open about his sexuality isn’t in the cards just yet.

When the two take their flirting to the next level, Cary wonders if he can handle another guy who might take off, while Heath has to decide if he can risk his dream of a laid back life—and giving up his long-held and much enjoyed bachelor status while taking on a child when being a father was never on his to-do list. Will they sink, or will they keep swimming?

Review: Cary finds himself on his own to raise his son after his ex decides he doesn’t want to be a father after all, and bails. He definitely had his heart broken and has his hands full with his son Gus, but when he and Heath keep running into each other at the dog shelter where they both volunteer, and at Cary’s shop, The Barkery by the Bay, he can’t help but start fantasizing about Heath.

Heath isn’t looking for a relationship. Certainly not a relationship with a man – a man with a kid no less! His life is complicated enough with an ex-wife, a budding business, and hiding his bisexuality from his co-workers. He’s biding his time until he can get off the oil rig and run his private charter company full-time with his business partner, Kyle. He also can’t get Cary out of his head, though, and the easy friendship they begin quickly turns into more.

Keep Swimming is a breezy romance with just enough drama to keep things interesting, and characters you will love. There is so much to like about this book…Gus. Is. Adorable. The secondary characters and friendships are fantastic. Cary and Heath, while they both have their own insecurities and baggage, really are great together. The cover is gorgeous. The name of Cary’s shop is perfection. Did I mention that Gus was adorable?? ;)

I’m continually amazed at the work Kade Boehme is able to crank out. And, he’s not just pumping out words for the sake of meeting some quota; that is obvious from the consistent quality of his books. Time and time again, he brings us characters that we are going to fall in love with and good, original storylines that keep us hooked. I honestly haven’t had that ‘Oh, I’ve read this before’ feeling with any of his books. And, I so appreciate and love that.

I adored Keep Swimming and can’t wait for the second book. Going Under, Kyle’s story, will be out very soon!!
