This is a short story about Asa and Virgil, set in the American Wild West. Virgil is a white man who is brought up to believe that his feelings towards other men are a sin. Running for his life after getting caught touching another man and being wrongly accused of theft, Virgil is almost on the brink of death when he is found by Asa. Asa is half Apache and a kind hearted quiet man. He takes Vigil home and saves him, in more ways than one.
I loved this story. I loved the way Asa was towards Vigil. Patient, soft spoken, and caring are just a few words I can say to describe Asa. After being with friends who have taught him love and how to express himself, Asa was the perfect teacher for Virgil. I loved how he wasn’t overbearing in teaching Virgil how to be submissive. And even though it isn’t written in words, you feel the love Asa has for Virgil in the actions he takes and the words of comfort he gives him.
From Virgil’s POV, we see the growth of understanding that his feelings for another man is okay, it’s not a sin to love someone. While at first he wasn’t sure what Asa expected of him, Virgil slowly and willingly overcomes his fear and gives in to what he has been missing and needing, the touch and love of another man.
Months later when Asa’s friends and occasional lovers come back to visit, I wasn’t sure how they were going to react to Virgil. I was pleasantly surprised. They welcomed Virgil into the fold and expressed happiness, in many ways, that Asa finally found someone that he could call his own.
This was a quick and heartwarming read. I would recommend this to first time readers of BDSM.
It’s an introduction to BDSM for the character and for the reader.
