Dr. Wes Gordon suffered an enormous loss and after barely existing for months afterward, he decides to go to Haiti and volunteer his services as a physician. With every child he saves and every smile he gets, Wes is one step closer to healing his broken heart. Little did Wes know that he would also find his future in this desolate country.
Rene is a young man who lost everything in the earthquake. He lost his family, his security and most of all, his dignity. He has had to do some things he isn’t proud of to survive, and one night that catches up to him. When a group of tormentors decide to pour petrol on Rene and light him on fire for no reason other than his sexuality, Wes steps in and saves Rene’s life. Eventually the two men form a bond that neither of them expected. Wes has always dreamed of having a family complete with a partner and kids, little did he know this lost teenager would set those dreams in motion.
After Wes saves Rene from his attackers, he is visited by Anthony Crowley, a diplomat who informs him that the young men who attacked Rene are from prominent families and likely would never be held accountable for their actions. This infuriates Wes to the point he almost misses how very handsome Anthony is. Luckily for Wes, though, Anthony has been smitten longer than Wes can imagine. When he visits next, Anthony makes his intentions clear to Wes and the men start a whirlwind romance.
Eventually Wes realizes there is more to Anthony’s job than just being a diplomat. Anthony can’t tell him the extent of his job, but he figures out that Anthony is basically a spy and leads a very dangerous life. As much as his mind tells him to let Anthony go, his heart has other ideas. Wes is looking for the dream, the whole package and he doesn’t know if that is possible with Anthony, but he has to give love a chance or live with the “what ifs” for the rest of his life.
Wes decides he wants to take Rene home with him when he leaves Haiti, but there is so much bureaucracy involved it almost seems hopeless. Maybe Anthony can help with his contacts at the embassy, but will that help come through in time? Will he end up with Rene as his son, but lose Anthony to the spy game? Well, you will have to read the book to find out. The resolution to the story comes at the very end, and I have to say I loved every moment of the anticipation.
I am a long time fan of Andrew Grey, so I was ecstatic about getting a galley of A Heart Without Borders to read for review. I recently got to meet Andrew Grey at Authors After Dark in Savannah, Georgia and let me tell you, he is so passionate about his writing, and I believe that is why I always fall in love with his stories. This book is so totally different from most of his books that I was a tad worried he couldn’t pull it off. Well, I shouldn’t have worried at all.
In this new book Andrew Grey flexes his writing muscles and describes the “tent city” that Wes Gordon is living in. I felt like I was right there with the characters, feeling the heat, the desperation and the total devastation right along with them. There is no doubt in my mind that this book will stay with me for a long time. Don’t miss this book. You will surely regret it if you do.

This sounds intense.
It was a very intense story. Andrew did a great job with the descriptions of the area. If Rene doesn’t break your heart, you are better than me, lol.
The story is intense, but I was very moved as I wrote it. I thought of trying to lighten it and figured I wouldn’t be doing it justice. I really hope you give it a chance and that it touches your heart the way it touched mine.
I am glad that you left all the detail in Andrew, it added so much depth to the story. I love Rene, maybe someday when he is all grown up we can visit him again! ;-)
I suspect we will. I just have to figure out the story. He’s a great character. I just have to wait for him to tell me his story.
