“If you dare nothing, then when the day is over, nothing is all you will have gained.” ― Neil Gaiman
Tarnished Souls: Frankie and Gent is the spinoff novella of Brita Addams’ historical romance, Tarnished Gold, set in the golden age of Hollywood. This great novella features the mobster Frankie Moretti whom having been sent to Hollywood to establish the “family business”, is surprised to find the character Arvin “Gent” Vitali waiting for him one evening in his living room. Gent has been sent to bring Moretti back to the mob boss in New York because the boss “smells a rat.” The mob boss years prior had actually separated Gent and Moretti after he found out that they were lovers. From this setup the action escalates rather quickly in this wonderful novella as the reader follows the constant pull of Moretti and Gent’s attraction to one another as they try to figure their way out of the mess they find themselves.
Addams is a master of dialogue and setting. I am astounded each and every time I read one of her works at the amount of research and how well she is able to transport the reader to another time and place. This fast paced mob novel has just enough sexual tension to leave the reader gasping for more and Tarnished Souls delivers to the hands of the reader a great introduction to two characters that this reviewer, for one, cannot wait to find out how more of their story unfolds.
The “Tarnished” series promises to deliver a great story with narrative substance, great romance, and wonderful historical acuity. It was a privilege to have read this book.

I’m going to order both, Tarnished Gold and this new sequel, Tarnished Souls. Been wanting to read it since I read the interview/review on TG earlier. Thanks for the post, Lisa.
