Switch Hitter had all my favorite elements for a story: a little bit of mystery, some sports and boys who love to play rough. But to my disappointment, the plot fell short for me. I felt it lacked innovation and the heat I wanted to make it great.

The story revolves around Jase, a famous closeted baseball player. He’s playing on the down-low and sets up a rendezvous at a private club for a night of sex and submission. We really don’t get much of his backstory, but it would have been nice to know what makes him tick. It’s been a while since his last encounter, and he goes through major planning not to be found out. The proprietor of this club does not disappoint and finds him a burly Dom by the name of Cap. We don’t know much about Cap except that he’s also not out, and he’s a SWAT captain, hence the name Cap. Again, no real info about Cap, but I think it would have added more to the story.
In the meantime, Jase is also being stalked by a crazed fan. Jase is abducted by Daniel, the stalker, and then raped. This was a very disturbing part of the story. So be warned that there is non-consensual sex and some sexual elements that might be a turn-off to some.
I felt the resolution was a bit far fetched and think the story would have been more engaging if a little of the action had been from Cap’s point of view. There is a happy ending, though, but to me the whole story missed the mark, so the ending didn’t do anything to redeem it for me.
Switch Hitter is an average book; I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either. With a better plot and character development, I think it could have been a better read.
