“Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass – Blondie”
Some find love on the first try and some need a second chance. Heart of Glass is a sweet little tale about second chances but not settling for second best. The story is about two men who make drastic changes in their lives to have the happily ever after.
Zack Doherty moves back to Australia after a bad break-up in the states. He’s looking for a chance to start fresh and in the process, to reconnect with his estranged father. Zack is a happy-go-lucky optimist. He knows he’ll make it. There’s a perk of living with his dad. He gets to drive his dad’s red Mustang, and that first drive in the smoking hot car plays a major role in Zack’s second chance.
Heath Connors is a man in transition. He did what was expected of him. Got a high paying job and married a woman to make his family happy, but not himself. One day everything comes to a head, and he realized that he can’t live like this anymore. Heath quits his job and leaves his wife. The consequences of his actions are devastating. His family abandons him, he becomes homeless, and hits rock bottom. But when life throws you down, someone picks you up. He’s saved by the kindness of a stranger. Heath turns his life around and finally admits to himself that he’s gay. And for the first time in his life, he’s comfortable in his skin.
I loved this novella! It had just the right balance of heartache, sweetness and sexiness! I’m a sucker for these types of stories. I also liked that the story was told from both of the main characters’ points of view. I feel it gives more life to the story when we can get into the characters’ heads and experience their inner voice. The character development was very thorough. I was pleasantly surprised because usually in a story this short, there’s not that much. I think this novella would have made an excellent full length novel. There was just so much there, and it could have been expanded even more.
The chemistry between the leads worked for me. And when it came to the sex, it was hot and satisfying. For them too! ;) If I had one complaint it would be more sex. I loved the dynamic between them. Heath was the virgin and Zack the more experienced one. Obviously Heath had his insecurities, but Zack was very sweet and patient with him. I love reading about first times. There is something very intimate and innocent that resonates with me. Love them!
Heart of Glass is not fragile. It’s a story about hope, love and being you. Give this novella a try, it will not disappoint you.
