THE FANYONS HAVE TAKEN OVER YOUR BLOG …
To celebrate the release of Kick Start, Book 5 in the Dangerous Ground series by Josh Lanyon, the Fanyons have taken to the interwebz and commandeered various blog sites – have YOU read this series? Here, to tempt and tease, is Steve – and he is going to tell you a little bit about the previous book in this wonderful series :
Josh Lanyon and I go way back – all the way back to August of 2006 when, shopping for m/m books on Amazon.com, I was made aware of a book called ‘A Dangerous Thing’. They say you always remember your first and they’re right. Since then I’ve read everything he’s written. Heck, I’d even read the phonebook if his name was on it!
In the Spring of 2008, Josh started the ‘Dangerous Ground’ series and introduced us to Will Brandt and Taylor MacAllister, Special Agents at the Department of Diplomatic Security. Flash-forward to Winter 2013, and it’s time for ‘Kick Start’ – book number five.
The previous instalment (and you do need to read them in order) is ‘Dead Run’ … and it’s a doozie. It follows on from ‘Blood Heat’ (Book 3), and Will has taken the posting in Paris, effectively ending his working partnership with Taylor. But now the distance in their relationship – first geographical and now somehow increasingly personal – is threatening to end that partnership as well.
It’s been eleven months – eleven long months – since they’ve seen each other. This is the first time Taylor has been able to get away from his job at DDS and as he’s going through security at LAX he sees what he believes is a terrorist and just like that we’re off and running … knee deep in the hoopla that’s become one of the hallmarks of Josh Lanyon, and especially the ‘Dangerous Ground’ series.
Taylor gets to Paris where old insecurities on both sides suddenly reappear and become seemingly larger than life. Misunderstandings turn into resentments, which quickly spin their way into accusations and recriminations, and soon their relationship, and even their friendship, are in danger of being swept away.
From a bomb scare at the Eiffel Tower, to explosions in the eerie Paris Catacombs… From wry and witty humor, to head-spinning misunderstandings… From sweet love-making, to the looming spectre of David Bradley… Dead Run has it all. And then some.
What has always struck me about Josh Lanyon’s writing is how he can say in a few paragraphs what other authors will labor over for pages and pages. A few words, a stray thought, a random glance… and you’re right there on the page: an invisible third party, a fly on the wall.
I read ‘Dead Run’ with my heart in my throat and a box of Kleenex at my side – yeah, so what of it? – and loved every pulse-pounding, I-wanna-smack-them-upside-their-heads, what-can-possibly-happen-next moment. To say I am looking forward to the next instalment would be an understatement – I cannot wait to see where Josh takes us next!

I am so excited to read this new book! <3 Josh Lanyon!
Thank you, Jackie!
Great intro, Steve! It’s true about never forgetting your first. Dangerous Ground was my first Lanyon. That could be why it’s my favorite, or it could be because it’s the best series ever! I am looking forward to the next installment.
Wow! That was one heck of an intro!
I love Josh Lanyon’s books but somehow I haven’t gotten to this series yet. Don’t know why, but I’m going to have to change that! Thanks for the great post.
Thanks for giving it a try, Antonia!
What a great intro, Steve! Especially the paragraph before last – i’m amazed anew by that every single time. Old Poison has been my favorite of the series so far, but Kick Start is special for me because it somehow anchors the series that much more firmly in my heart. Until now i had fun with all the adventures, but now it’s as if Will and Taylor and i had time to sit down and talk and we’ve become friends. Can’t wait to meet them again :-)
Thank you so much, KC
Awesome job Steve. I love this series and all Josh’s others:). I am also excited to see where he goes next.
Thanks, Bex. I hope to keep you all guessing!
Nice job, Steve. Just a wonderful, engaging series and ajosh’s writing does keep you on the page with these two. And, Paris? <3
Thank you, Carli!
Great review, Steve! I really can’t wait to read Kick Start, but I’ve decided to finish listening to the rest of the series first. I’m in the middle of Blood Heat right now….. although I may weaken over the weekend, since I usually listen to the audiobooks while driving.
You’ll have to keep driving in circles to finish, Denise!
I always look forward to a Josh Lanyon release!
Thank you, Tara!
Love your intro Steve (looming spectre – :-D ) I’m enjoying these stories again in audio form right now. Definitely agree that Josh brings you right into the action with his writing. To all of you first time readers – you are in for a treat. Looking forward to more in this series and everything Josh has lined up.
Dianne, we just signed Adrian to do the audio on Kick Start. :-)
I really enjoyed The Dickens with Love by Lanyon. He is a great author.
Thank you! How kind.
Sounds like a great series and one I haven’t read yet. Please count me in. Paul
Good luck, Paul!
Sounds irresistible to me!
Awww! Thank you, Trix.
Thank you for the blog tour, it’s been fun following you around!
What a great blog tour this has been!
Thanks for introducing me to some great blogs on this tour!
That’s been one of the most fun parts. Finding all these new blogs!
Dead Run was a mile-a-minute!! I loved it ♥ great reminder of it, thanks Steve! I am halfway through Kick Start now and loving it! This is Will and Tay up close and personal. LOVING the intensity of them ♥
I think my favorite might be Blood Heat. :-) I think some of the funniest lines are in that one.
This series sounds amazing, I need to read it! Yay, new author for me!
I hope so. Thank you!
Love Steve’s intro
Me too. :-)
My only complaint about this series is that the books aren’t long enough. ;D
The looming spectre of David Bradley, LOL! What a fun way to revisit all previous books, it was a great blog hop. Thanks to everyone involved.
“…to the looming spectre of David Bradley…”
LOL
For a while I that the poor guy wasn’t bad as all made him out to be but today I heard him in the audio books for the first time and the way Adrian Bisson reads him and now that I’m reminded of “the Good-bye-kiss” I’m furious again. How could he?! *takes deep breath*
You’re definitely right in that “Dead Run” has it all, even David Bradley and all he stands for. ;-)
That should have been “I thought that the poor guy…”
*sorry, it’s late here*
I love the whole series and Kick Start is as fantastic as the others. I envy those who haven’t read them yet, they have such a treat to come.
A brilliant post Steve.
Can’t wait to see the evolution of this story, I’ve been waiting for it for months!
It’s a brilliant series! Great review Steve!
I’m new to the series. .. can’t wait to start!
