“To make one, there must be two.” ― W.H. Auden
Better Together is a story in the Second Chances series. The stories are about finding love the second time around. I enjoyed reading this sweet story. It had just the right amount of angst and sex. Since this was a short story, there was not much action, unless you consider the sex. And there was plenty of it! :-)
The story is about two men who are in a long term relationship. Greyson Wells the artist and Dominic Nash the doctor. Greyson gives up his budding art career in NYC and moves to Baltimore to be with Dominic, who’s pursuing his lifelong dream of studying at John Hopkins. After a while, Greyson starts to resent that Dominic is focusing on his career, which causes tension in their relationship. Dominic does something to make Greyson stay but it backfires, so Greyson moves back to NYC. They neither break up nor stay together. They are in limbo but they still love each other. The distance does not matter because they know that they are there for each other when the need arises, and it does over the years.
This bond never breaks and after years apart, building their separate lives, they come back together. Greyson realizes that he belongs with Dominic because Dominic is his home. Greyson and Dominic’s relationship is believable. It’s realistic in the sense that living with someone is not all smooth sailing. There was enough material in this short story for a full length novel. It would have been interesting to see more of a back story to Greyson and Dominic.
If you love a happy ending, Better Together delivers.
