Review: It is no secret that I am a HUGE fan of RJ Scott and especially her Texas series. From the very beginning I have loved the battle between Jack and Riley. Once they both stopped fighting it, their love was strong enough to bring their individual families together, and they seem to be collecting more family as they go along.
In Texas Christmas, the fifth book in the series, we get another glimpse of the new twins and we get to know Max better. I loved how Ms. Scott brought Max to life and showed how he related to Jack and Riley individually, and as a member of their crazy huge family. Watching them go through their struggles to bring Max home made me love them more because there isn’t a single thing in the world they wouldn’t do for that little boy, and he was their son whether the state of Texas knew it or not.
We also got to spend some quality time getting to know Liam and Marcus. These two were introduced in the last book, but this time we really get to know the two men and their history. Liam has been through so much it is a miracle that he gives Marcus a chance at all. Of course, Marcus doesn’t give Liam much chance to say no. Marcus knows that Liam has had it rough, but when he finds out the true extent of Liam’s pain, he wants to wrap Liam in bubble wrap and just take care of the man. Liam won’t allow this, however, so the two men work together with their new friends on the Double D to help Liam heal.
Unfortunately Liam’s troubles have followed him to the Double D, and it will take all of the inner strength he has built up to pull him through this. Thankfully he has learned to lean on his friends, and this will help him overcome his problems and hopefully give him a real chance at a future with Marcus.
While all of this is going on, Eli and Robbie have completed the construction on their new home and they are finally moving forward as a loving committed couple.
While all of this is happening to the men on the ranch, Elizabeth brings another family member into the fold and it seems everyone is more than content. With the holiday upon them, Jack and Riley decide to start some new traditions, and this brings the family even closer together.
I don’t know if this is the last book in the series, but if it isn’t, I will be the first in line to grab the next one. One of the things I love most about this series is the way each and every character we love gets a little page time. None of the books focus fully on only one couple, and that makes it feel more like a family affair. Ms. Scott has created a special place out there on the Double D and has made it feel so real that I sometimes wonder if I could actually go visit Jack, Riley and their super crazy family.
If you haven’t read any other books in this series I highly recommend starting from book one. Without the back stories for each character, these later books would be hard to follow, but I assure you, it is well worth the reads. I, for one, am hoping to see more from this series, but if it was to end here, I could say it ended well.
