Hi, I’m Reesa Herberth, and I’m so happy to be here with you on to talk about my newest book, In Discretion. I’m running a trivia contest; I’ve got an excerpt- it’s just a big party up in here! I’d like to thank the bloggers (and readers!) of The Novel Approach for letting me join you on my official blog tour.
I’m running a trivia contest throughout the tour, with a winner to be drawn from the entries on Friday, January 10, 2014. I’ll be giving away the winner’s choice of any e-book in my backlist, plus a reading gift pack featuring books and treats! The contest is open to U.S. and International entrants. In the event that a winner outside the U.S. is chosen, a gift certificate to Riptide Publishing or Amazon will be substituted for the physical prize. To enter, email me with the answers to the following trivia questions (answers to all questions can be found in In Discretion):
1. What is the name of Thanson Nez’s father?
2. Who is Tynna?
3. What item did Thanson steal from Kazra the last time they saw one another?
Remember, just email the answers to be entered to win. And now, on to more pressing matters…
Debunking the Top 5 Myths About “In Discretion”
It seems like there might be a few rumors* about my new release, In Discretion, that require a bit of myth busting. Flattered as I am by the inferences, it’s time to douse some of these flames before they leap up and take out a good pair of trousers. Presented below, in no particular order, are the top 5 myths about In Discretion:
1. “In Discretion” is the unauthorized sequel to “Stranger in a Strange Land”.
Not true, not true. Thanson Nez may seem every inch the wealthy Imperial socialite, but he grew up on the planet Corve, a haven of criminal activity and vice. Sure, he’s a respected companion to upper crust citizens who can afford his contract now, but he knows a thing or two about living on the edge. Station 43 might not be his first choice, but Thanson’s survived in worse places. (And no, he wasn’t raised by Martians.)
2. Peter Jackson has approached us about optioning “In Discretion”.
No, no, of course not. Hopefully, Mr. Jackson will soon be busy bringing Naomi Novik’s Temeraire books to the big screen. He’s got bigger dragons to fly. I think Guillermo del Toro would have more fun with the claustrophobic setting and lurking danger of Station 43 anyway.
3. Timothy Olyphant and Michael Ealy have already signed on to play Kazra and Thanson.
I don’t know where people come up with this stuff, I swear! Neither of them have been signed to the non-existent movie. It’s really only Mr. Olyphant’s hair we want. (Well, for Kazra, anyway, unless there’s a Persian Olyphant doppelganger running around.) Michael Ealy, on the other hand, is welcome to have his agent call us. (We’ll do lunch.)
4. “In Discretion” is an elaborate “Pride and Prejudice” AU
Even though Thanson’s got the pride and Kazra’s got the prejudice (he wears the “bitter ex” thing well), this one doesn’t hold much water either. Unless we reimagine Lady Catherine de Bourgh as a space station… No. It’s too dreadful. Forget I said anything.
5. The production of “In Discretion” has already been plagued with accidents, including the mysterious affliction and eventual (possible!) demise of the author’s sister, and the transmogrification of a fan into an inanimate object. The story may be cursed.
This one isn’t actually that far off… I don’t know about cursed, but things certainly aren’t going well on Station 43, and it does look like Thanson’s connections or Kazra’s sarcasm are going to get them out of it. I heard a rumor they might have to pull out the big guns- actually talk to each other- but I think we can all see where listening to rumors gets us.
* The author could not be reached for comment about the possible origins of these rumors.

Thanks again to everyone for letting me stop by. I’ll be popping in and out to answer any questions or comments throughout the day, and don’t forget to enter the trivia contest! Curious about the story that might have sparked all these wild ideas? You can read an excerpt and purchase the book here.
About In Discretion:
Thanson Nez thought his career as a Discretionary would take him to the stars, not strand him on a space station at the ass-end of the Empire. Thanks to his last client, he’s carrying a secret he can’t get rid of fast enough, but his oath to the guild means a swift, painful death if he shares it. Already desperate for help, he runs into yet more trouble: his ex, and an explosion that paralyzes the station moments after their uncomfortable reunion.
Kazra Ferdow, Station 43’s communications officer, is almost as blindsided by the return of his first love as he is by the sudden loss of power and life support. The station is a floating graveyard in the making, and something is turning its inhabitants into savage killers. Fighting human monsters and damaged tech, Kazra and Thanson must put aside their past long enough to try to save everyone.
The more light they shine into dark corners, the more Thanson realizes how many people might die for the secrets locked in his head—and what he’s willing to sacrifice to make sure Kazra isn’t one of them.
