Photographer Ralph Haraldsson’s birthday celebration starts to turn disastrous when he runs into his ex, and it seems to be headed downhill from there. Julian Franzese, an off-duty cop with a hotter-than-sin body, gets co-opted to take Ralph home when the friends he came with run into problems. Even though they’ve never met before, Julian defends Ralph’s wounded pride from his ex and his body from a creepy patron. The relationship starts out cool, but Ralph soon warms up to the persistent Texan, and as they get to know each other, the temperature continues to rise. But Ralph has a couple of secrets: an old injury that could make a difference, and the room he keeps locked up behind his studio—a room where only those who play by the rules can enter. What might Julian think if Ralph shows him all his hidden colors?

Review: Coloring Outside the Lines is a cute story about taking a chance and going outside your comfort zone. Diana DeRicci did a great job of creating an entertaining story that was a pleasure to read.
The story is about Ralph a photographer who just broke up with his boyfriend and Julian, a cop who gets what he wants, and he wants Julian from the first moment he lays eyes on him. Their first meeting is pretty funny. Julian overhears Ralph telling his friend that he needs relief, and then Ralph proceeds to waylay Julian in front of his old boyfriend. From the start, Julian knows that Ralph will be his, but it takes Ralph a little longer to warm up to Julian’s charm. Ralph has reservations about opening his life up to Julian because he’s afraid Julian will run for the hills when he finds out what kind of photography Ralph does. Many of his past boyfriends couldn’t get past this aspect of his life. But Julian surprises him with his acceptance and in fact, he’s totally on board with it. :-)
I loved the interactions between Julian and Ralph. It was very well written without the usual clichéd dialogue. The chemistry between the main characters was hot and jumped off the page. I say that a lot but when it’s true, it’s true. There is a turbulent event that they experience, but they overcome it and have their HEA!
I enjoyed Coloring Outside the Lines. It was cute and sweet, perfect for a night on the couch, reading. If you are a Diana DeRicci fan, you’ll not be disappointed, and if this is your first book by the author, this story is a great introduction to her writing.
