Review: Craig, a lifelong thief, has just been released after serving six years in prison for theft. Now that he is free, it is time to head back to Denver and retrieve his nest egg he stashed over his twenty year career in crime. What he didn’t know was that two former associates have learned of this nest egg and are right on his tail.
When he gets to Denver, he makes contact with an old associate. He needs money, a car, and a place to stay. He works a job to get those things, but when he returns and finds his friend murdered, he realizes it is connected to him and he sets out to find out who did it and make them pay.
While having a meal in Denver, he runs into the last person he ever expected to see again. Craig and Adam were deeply in love twenty years ago, but Craig’s “profession” drove a wedge between them they weren’t able to overcome. Eventually, Adam walked away and focused on his acting career. Their impromptu reunion was not a happy one, and they once again walked away from each other. When Craig learns who is after him, he makes plans to avenge his murdered friend, but he needs help, and the only person he knows in Denver is Adam.
When he approaches Adam for help to enact his plan, Adam agrees, but only if Craig includes him one hundred percent. Over the course of preparing his revenge, Craig and Adam become close again and realize that their love may have survived the twenty year separation, but they put that on the back burner; they have a couple murderers to catch.
After a harrowing finale to the revenge scheme, Adam and Craig have an even scarier prospect in front of them. They have to sort out the feelings they have for each other. Adam still can’t abide what Craig does for a living. Will Craig retire so they might have a chance? What about Adam’s career? Craig can’t see himself sitting at home waiting for Adam to come home after months of touring with a show. They will have to find a compromise if things are going to work out. Is their love going to be enough of a motivation this time?
Edward Kendrick has written another wonderful book. I loved Craig. I think what I loved about him the most was how unapologetic he was about being a thief. He took pride in his chosen profession, but when it came time to make tough decisions he made them and he stood by those decisions. Adam was wonderful also. Walking away from someone you love because of your morals takes major strength and Adam had that in spades.
While reading this I could tell that these were more mature men because they didn’t jump right into bed and let sex fix their issues. Even though they loved one another, they realized sometimes that just isn’t enough. But don’t get me wrong, once they worked it out the physical side of their relationship was H.O.T.!
I highly recommend this title.
The cover is just amazing. Looks like a really great read. On my TBR list for sure. Thanks for the review, Jackie. P
