Review: Forty year old Cal Parsons is a down on his luck actor who is currently homeless. After being tossed out by his latest boyfriend, Cal is camping out in his Ford Ranger truck while performing his one man show about Rock Hudson. Things are just a little tight for him at the moment. I have to give Cal credit: at least he’s pretty optimistic about his situation. Cal feels with some monetary backing, he can make his Rock Hudson one man show a hit! After all, Cal, as a younger man, did receive great reviews for his starring role in a gay film called Lust/Anger/ Joy.
At this point, I’m feeling a bit sorry for Cal. His one claim to fame is this film, and at forty he’s still waiting for his career to take off. Funny how his pride keeps him from looking for a job, yet he almost sinks so low as to sleep with someone just for a warm bed for the night.
Dewitt Morgan, small town lawyer of Marlboro Township, enters the story. He’s been trying to locate Cal Parsons in L.A. When Cal eventually finds out, through his agent, that a lawyer is trying to contact him, Cal’s first thought is, is someone out to sue me? Hmm…Cal, I’m beginning to really wonder about you.
Eventually, and with great reluctance, Cal gives this lawyer a call. And lo and behold, it’s not about a possible lawsuit. Cal has just inherited 3 million dollars from a recently deceased ex-boyfriend, McCormack Williams. In order to claim his inheritance, Cal must travel to rural New York.
Now, this is where the fun begins…
I just want to say this. If and when I die, I want to come back just like McCormack did. Oooooh, the fun I could have. There are several people, I could mess with and enjoy every moment. Oooops sorry!
As you can probably tell I loved the ghost. My only problem with the story is that romance between Cal and Dewitt seem a bit rushed, and I would have loved reading several more pages toward this end. Just needed more interaction between the two. Otherwise, it’s more like instant lust that is often mistaken for love. I would love to read a sequel with more McCormack, the sign of a good book when the reader wants more!
