Review: One of my favorite types of romances is one where you follow how the relationship develops. In other words, you get to see how the two MC’s interact with other. Good and bad, you get the idea that these two are soul mates who have finally found each other.
Soft spoken architect Brian Townsend is all decked out as a demon for a Halloween party at his friend Alicia Day’s house. Alicia has been playing matchmaker and has tried to hook him up with someone. In spite of coming off a bad relationship that ended up with him moving and changing jobs, Brian wouldn’t mind going for something light and frivolous. After all, it has been over a year since he’s been with someone.
Wouldn’t you know it…Zorro catches Brian’s attention, and they manage to sneak into a closet for a bit of fun and bad puns. Cute!
Just as theey’re both enjoying some post-coitaling before going back to the party, Zorro’s cell phone rings, and it is at this point that Brian learns that Zorro is a cop and he must leave because there’s a body waiting for him. Without so much as letting Brian know his real name, Zorro runs off into the night. Just like Cinderella, but without the glass slipper…Brian isn’t to be deterred. He manages to obtain an email address from Alicia’s husband, instead.
Now that I’ve let you know a little bit about the beginning of this relationship, I’ll let you know how the title says it all about the story.
Police detective Tristan Blake is reluctant to trust anyone when it comes to a relationship. His former boyfriend, Eric (the sleaze), dumped him after his work partner was killed in an accident. Won’t even go into what this sleaze did to Tristan, both mentally and physically. Tristan just isn’t in the mood for a relationship. But then along comes cute, sexy Brian, bad puns and all…
What can I say? I love these types of stories. There’s some angst in the storyline but just enough to see how these two handle diverse situations together. I enjoyed reading how Tristan’s trust towards Brian was a slow but not painful, or even a ridiculous, process. It was a very mature getting-to-know-each-other read, with a dab of humor to lighten some of the situations.
So for me, who loves interaction, this is a 5 Star read. Highly recommended if you don’t mind a typo or two, for those that just want a “getting to know you” sweet romance.
