Review: I recently become a fairly big fan of LE Franks. When I saw this book on the list for review, I snatched it right up and I am so glad I did.
I believe that each and every one of us has been in Nick’s position at least once in our lives. You know that place I am talking about: when you get burned by the one you love the most and vow that you will never let it happen again, you will never put your heart on the line again just to get it broken. This is the place Nick is in when we meet him. Usually when someone tells themselves that they don’t want love, then they are pretty much guaranteed to find it.
Nick has convinced himself that he doesn’t need, nor does he want, a serious relationship. One night stands with nameless men are exactly what he wants. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, the new bouncer has decided that what Nick needs is a boyfriend, so he does his best to set Nick up with his cousin. Nick fights this idea tooth and nail, and even resorts to some pretty underhanded tactics to make Fat Boy back off. His plan works in getting Fat Boy to back off on the hookup with his cousin, but for some reason it seems like they are now friends.
When Nick finds himself attracted to Fat Boy, he tries to fight it by picking up a cutie at work, but when he finds out the identity of the cutie, his heart is broken. Feeling used and manipulated, Nick decides to cut off all contact with Fat Boy, but all it takes is a little honesty and one grand gesture for him to rethink his position.
This was a very sweet short story. It was well written, and I simply adored Nick. Ms. Franks has a way with words that just grabs me from the start and leaves me feeling happy and content with the ending of the story. If you are looking for a quick but very satisfying love story, this book should be right up your alley, and I would highly recommend it.
