Review: We first met Henri in the book From the Ashes by Daisy Harris. In this, the second book of the Fire and Rain series, we get to see Henri find his man.
You see, Henri has the worst taste in men. One former boyfriend ran over his cat, another convinced him to drop his degree minor, and the most recent ex not only cheated on him but put his health in jeopardy. Thankfully, he has plans with his friends Michael, Jesse, and Tomas to get out of town for some camping so he can try to get his head on straight. All of his plans of relaxing are shot to hell, though, when he gets to the designated meeting place and finds that his ride ditched him and he will have to spend the next five hours with a big ol’ country boy from Texas, who dresses like he shops at Goodwill.
Logan has lived in Seattle for going on six months now. He is fresh off a break up with is ex of five years… a woman. Logan got sick of hiding his true self and decided to come out. Well, he came out to his friends, his parents, and his now ex girlfriend, but he has yet to test the waters with other men. He is only twenty and can’t hit the gay bars so he has no idea how to go about getting the experience he is lacking. When his first attempt at asking a guy out crashes and burns, he does get invited along on a camping trip, and he is excited to finally get to meet more gay men. What he didn’t know was that he was going to meet Henri. The abrupt and rude man is nothing like Logan, but he does get his motor running.
Logan finds himself inexplicably attracted to Henri, and the closer he tries to get to Henri, the more he is pushed away. It eventually takes a little honesty between the two of them, and a football injury to get them together, but once they give in to the physical side of their attraction, it only brings up more issues. What will happen when they return home? Henri doesn’t have anywhere to stay and doesn’t feel ready to begin another relationship right away. Logan wants to keep Henri close, but he will have to fight the man himself to get what he wants.
It took Henri some time to see the truth, but after spending time with a nice guy he realized that none of his ex-boyfriends were even close to nice. With a little advice from a friend, Henri realizes that maybe he needs to find a different type of guy if he wants a different outcome.
Daisy Harris wowed me with the Holsum College boys, and I am quickly falling in love with the boys in the Fire and Rain series. Jesse and Tomas were a great start, but so far Henri and Logan have stolen the show. A shy virginal fireman hooks up with a sarcastic man who has been hurt badly. What could you do but love these two? I highly recommend this book as well as the first book in the series.
