Jackie Nacht Has Brought A Full Moon Giveaway To The Novel Approach

TNA: Hi, Jackie, thanks so much for being here with us today. Why don’t we start out by having you tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, interests, things we might not know about you but should?

Jackie: Thank you for having me.

I’m a mother of two little ones and happily married for over ten years. My hobbies include running, writing and reading every chance I get. I’m fairly new to writing. I’ve only been published a little over a year and half.

As for something you might not know but should? Phew, I had to read that question a couple of times. That could lead to some pretty interesting answers. LOL Hmm, this is tough. I guess I have a weird quirk. I’m a little keyboard shy but very outgoing in person if that makes sense. So, please don’t be afraid if you’re at a conference with me and I just walk up to you, striking up a conversation. LOL

TNA: Have you always written M/M Romance, or is that something that came along later in your writing career? What is it that drew you into wanting to explore gay relationships in your writing?

Jackie: My first book was LGBT Young adult so yes, all my books are M/M. There are couple things that drew me into writing M/M. The first was my sister had been doing it for years. The second was seeing another teen suicide in the news. Feeling helpless, I wrote.

TNA: What was your first published M/M title? Do you remember the precise moment you came up with the story idea and knew you wouldn’t rest until it was told?

Jackie: My first published title was Latitude 45 with my sister. The first book I wrote was my young adult, See. With Latitude 45, it was exciting writing with my sister, our thoughts, humor, meshed well with the story. It’s very easy to write with someone who has shared and lived the same experiences as you.

See was more personal. I wrote the book in less than a week, upset that another teen had committed suicide. It bothered me and I couldn’t let it go. Feeling helpless to help, I wrote a story where someone got to him in time.

TNA: Do you remember the first M/M book you ever read? If so, what was it, and what about it made the most lasting impression upon you?

Jackie: My first M/M romance I read was Primal Passions. My sister came to me and asked to beta read for her. I loved it, absolutely loved it. I’ve been hooked ever since.

TNA: If you could go back in time, to the moment you sat down and began writing that first book, what’s the one piece of advice you’d give yourself now that you have the benefit of experience?

Jackie: The more eyes you have on your work, the better. You can never catch all your mistakes and fresh eyes on your manuscript will only make it better.

TNA: How would you describe your books to someone who hasn’t read them yet? Do your characters share common qualities? If so, what’s your idea of a great protagonist?

Jackie: Usually my books are light, sweet and fluffy except for my Moon Compound. That’s would be my edgy and gritty series.

I would say my new adult books have characters that share common qualities. They are geared for a reader to root for and enjoy the journey to their happily ever after.

My Moon Compound books are entirely different. The journey a reader has to go through with the protagonist is darker and sometimes painful. I believe both types of protags offer something to the table and allow a reader more of a chance to find what they enjoy. :D

TNA: Tell us a few things you think make your shifters stand apart from the pack. (Pun fully intended. :) )

Jackie: LOL. Love the pun!

Well, my shifters are sent to Moon Compound to be locked up until they control their wolves. My shifters don’t have one shift and then it’s easy from then on. It takes several painful years. They have medical staff to help them after their shift.

Something else that is different is that the alpha, omega and gamma are not necessarily a hierarchy in packs. Each group has their own strengths that they bring forth to protect those they love.

TNA: I know this is sort of like asking you to name your favorite child, but of all the books you’ve written, do you have a favorite? If so, which and why?

Jackie: LOL. That is tough. Can I cheat a little?

I would say my favorite to date is probably my young adult, See. However, my third Moon Compound book, Full Moon Gamma is right there next to it. See, I explained above why it’s important to me.

Full Moon Gamma was a challenge to how far I could take my writing. Actually the Moon Compound as a whole is a challenge. I love writing romantic comedy but I also want to try writing dark and gritty. Full Moon Gamma is that novel.

TNA: If you could bring one of your characters off the page and into the real world, whom would you most like to spend time with, and what makes him/her someone you think you could be friends with?

Jackie: I would say Aunt Holly from Fireflies and Crickets. I based that character off of my best friend. LOL

Fictionally, though, I would love to sit and have lunch at the Nut and Leaf Café with Beauregard and Phillip from my Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly. I would love to sit and watch the nuances of a deer and chipmunk shifter. Maybe watch Phillip hoard…oops! I mean store all the peanut butter lol.

TNA: Are you a plotter or a pantser? Whichever you are, why do you feel that method works best for you?

Jackie: I am definitely a plotter but have been known to blow the outline out of the water. :D

TNA: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

Jackie: I’d like to have the ability to duplicate/triplicate myself so that I could be in more than one place at once. Although now that I think about that…hmmm. Kind of creepy lol!

TNA: If time travel were possible, to what time period would you most like to travel and why?

Jackie: Lots of times and places but my family is here now. I don’t want to miss a minute of being with them. I love my books and that’s my way to time travel. Now if I could take my family, I’m sure my little ones would want to see the dinosaurs. LOL!

TNA: Would you care to share a little bit of information on any of your current WIPs with us?

Jackie: I’m finishing up Full Moon Hellhound which is Daegal’s and Oren’s story. This is the fourth Moon Compound book, and the only little hint I can give is that the reader will get to finally get a real insight to the hellhounds in this book. They really are that bad and worse.
