Review: This book had some of my favorite types of men in it: There was the tall and built small town sheriff, who luckily just happens to be gay. Then we have the out-of-town bad boy with the long hair, motorcycle, and attitude to spare. In this first book of the series, Rain Carrington introduces us to Jack Colton and Rebel Marino. This is a very well written opposites attract story.

Jack is the small town sheriff in the story. He was married to Martin for sixteen years, but three years earlier, Martin died of cancer. Since that time not only has Jack not been with another man, but Martin visits him all the time. He tells Jack that when he meets a man who makes him whole, Martin will fade away. This is the last thing that Jack wants; what he and Martin had could never be replicated.

Rebel Marino is a man with little direction in his life. The only member of his family that cared about him, his aunt Candace, has recently passed away and left Rebel her house and small store. Rebel decides to fix up the house and store and then sell them. His dream is to open a cycle shop to customize and repair bikes. Rebel has never been in a real relationship, and he has no interest in one now.

When Jack and Rebel cross paths, it certainly isn’t a great first meeting, and the second one isn’t much better. The only good thing to come of their meetings is the instant attraction that they have for one another. Jack tries to fight it and Rebel wants to keep it casual, but it becomes apparent they are both fighting a losing battle.

As much as Rebel likes to fight authority of any kind, Jack believes he would be the perfect submissive to Jack’s Dominant nature. As their relationship progresses, Jack and Rebel have to learn to trust one another, both in and out of the “playroom”. This is not easy, especially for Rebel. He has never been able to trust anyone except his Aunt, and it is even harder to accept the fact that he likes everything Jack is introducing him to.

When a small crime spree starts in Jack’s small town, he quickly realizes that someone is trying to frame Rebel for the crimes. A man no one suspects is trying to get Rebel out of the way, and with Rebel acting skittish as a cat, Jack is worried Rebel will run for the hills.

Eventually Jack and Rebel get themselves together, but the journey is something you will not want to miss. Some of the scenes in their playroom had smoke coming from my Kindle. At the same time, though, these two were developing a very loving and sweet partnership.

With a little help from the dearly departed, both Jack and Rebel work through some rather daunting obstacles, even a lovesick young man who is on his own path of destruction.

This book is full of some very hot D/s scenes and some heartbreaking revelations. I was caught up in the story from the start, and now I am just dying for the next book in the series. This is a new to me author, and I was wonderfully surprised with the depth of the characters and their emotions. I would highly recommend this book. I dare you not to love it.
