Review: We’ll clear up one thing that has been mentioned about Nothing Special; it has editing issues. The author is aware of them and has gone to great lengths to see that anything she releases to the public in the future will be much improved. I am going to review it based solely on the content. That said, this was a good book! A.E. Via writes sex scenes that burn your fingertips. And Cashel “Cash” Godfrey and Leonides “Leo” Day have a whole lot of sex. They are most often referred to as “God and Day”. The best cop/lover pairing since, (insert name of your personal favorite couple here). There are too many really great ones for me to choose from.

God is huge and gorgeous, reserved, quiet and assumed straight. Until he’s not. Day is sarcastic and funny and seems to be the only one who makes God smile. He is also out and proud from the day he graduates the police academy. Together they are the most successful narcotic detectives in Atlanta. Picture personalities like Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in Bad Boys, if they were gay. And white. That’s a movie Hollywood needs to make. I don’t care what color they are, we need some sexy gay detectives who… wait, where was I?

Yeah. God and Day are promoted over and over, their unspoken communication making them a better team than any other. Things all change the day that God saves Day’s life. There is a huge bust scheduled, and things go sideways fast. Then Day thinks he may see God looking at him differently. He realizes that God has never had a girlfriend in the five years they have know each other. Then God makes the drunken phone call to Day in the middle of the night.

The evolution of their relationship from friends and work partners to lovers and life partners is so seamlessly written it feels like nothing changed except the addition of the aforementioned frequent and hot sex. No matter how close they get or how much they care about or love each other, though, God won’t tell Day about his life before they met. All Day know is that God has a mom and brother living in Atlanta for whom he does some home repairs.

Day’s family is an open book to God, and they have met and spent time together over the years. While Day knows that God has a tense relationship with his mom and brother, he has no idea what that really means until God gets deathly ill and can’t be left alone. Day inadvertently triggers a series of events that will tear apart a couple and release the secrets God has been keeping from Day and his own family for over a decade.

It was heart-breaking to see a larger-than-life character brought literally to his knees. I cried and yelled at God’s brother and at God himself. When will men (okay, some women, too) learn that the third most important use of the human mouth is COMMUNICATION???? People don’t have the ability to read minds.

As usually happens in these MM erotic romance novels we can’t seem to stop reading, the MC is forced to confront his secrets and deal with the consequences. This is always painful, but you know, and they eventually realize that it would have been so much less traumatic if they had just done it years ago. But then the read wouldn’t have been so much fun for us, now would it have?

I don’t believe that there’s Nothing Special about this book or these men. I would love to read more about them, and I am happy to recommend that you do the same.
