Review: Warning: Do not read books out of order, because after reading The Only One Who Matters, I wanted MORE! Luckily for me, I was able to scoop up the first one, The Only One Who Knows, right after I’d finished reading The Only One Who Matters. Cat Grant and L.A. Witt make a fantastic writing team!
In spite of the fact that I started off with the second one in this series, my interest and heart was soon captured and won over by the two very alpha type MCs, David and Josh. But out of the two, David stood out the most. Damn, I love a strong man! Because whether David realized it or not, he’s a survivor even with all the obstacles that had been placed in his way.
Starting with:
1. Dealing with the rehabilitation of his leg.
2. Dealing with his forced retirement.
3. Dealing with the envy he feels whenever Josh is sent on a deployment.
4. Dealing with his worry that something will happen to Josh during a deployment.
5. And finally, dealing with being alone while Josh is deployed.
And still he managed to move forward with an occasional step back. So when these two have a fight because Josh is being deployed sooner than expected…well…David just became even more human to me.
Now, let’s talk about Josh. As much as Josh loves David, he loves being a SEAL too. What a dilemma these two men have between them, because Josh is good at what he does as Team Leader, and he’s in no rush to quit being a SEAL, and I can’t blame him, not when David’s got almost twenty years as a SEAL behind him.
It’s only fair that Josh continues with his job, then, right?
So when these two had their fight and Josh had to leave immediately, it was an “Oh Crud!” moment. At this time, I was quietly hoping that Josh would quit for the sake of love.
NOT!
It would have been too wimpy of a story with that “quick” fix. Woohoo, the plot thickens! We would have missed when Josh was captured, and how Senior Chief David Flint was in his head during his escape. We would have missed when Josh came home with problems of his own, so I’m quite happy with how things worked out between these two very alpha males, and that’s why I’m giving a happy 5 Star rating for The Only One Who Matters.
Highly recommended for those who love a man in uniform!
