In chapter 16 of Basketball Jones, things seem to be okay as AJ and Dray enjoy a day together, and then something happens that makes me scream at my computer monitor. Intrigued? It’s time for Kingett to read Basketball Jones.
I can’t function. I have lost all capability to make a decent thought. This story is getting really creepy, simply because the blackmailer is doing things and saying things that make no sense at all. In any context.
In this chapter, AJ and Dray fly to Washington DC and get a room together at the Ritz. This chapter is very short as well, because this chapter takes place inside of a bedroom at the Ritz.
Remember how I guessed that the blackmailer was working with someone? I am not even sure anymore. The blackmailer is doing things, and even hinting at things, that I don’t even know how to reply to.
Things are fine for a while, since AJ and Dray have fun and spend time with one another and all seems to be okay in the world. They talk, they spend time together, and they enjoy one another’s company. This is purely epic! What isn’t so epic is what happens when Dray takes a shower. As soon as Dray goes and gets in the shower, the hotel room phone rings. AJ answers it, and a deep male voice answers him. It’s the blackmailer. Oh my god, someone help me through this, you are not prepared for my ramblings! I seriously need a virtual hug!
What? How did he know that AJ was at the Ritz? How did he know that they were going to be there on that day? This is bizarre! AJ thinks that the guy is just bluffing when the man says something that makes my blood run cold.
“Oh, yes, you do have a boyfriend, and if you want to keep him then you’re going to get me some big money. Otherwise I’m going to go to the press, wifey, and of course your boi’s family. I’m also going to tell your mother what you did when you were fifteen. I don’t think she’s going to like what I have to tell her.”
This is creepy, and I am eternally unprepared. I am not even sure what to even think or say. What’s going on? Cisco doesn’t have AJ’s journals, does he? AJ kept those safe, and he didn’t tell anybody that he wrote them. How would the person know what AJ has done and what AJ is doing? Why is the person targeting AJ, when Dray obviously has the bigger bank account? I don’t understand how this person could be obtaining information about AJ. I don’t know so many things. I am lost, clueless, and now my heart is pounding as I look at the screen. This is huge. What’s happening? Who’s in on this now? Is this still Cisco doing this?
Is it possible that Cisco could have gotten into AJ’s house when AJ had not been there, and looked until he found the journals? How would Cisco even know that AJ kept journals, since they just met a few weeks ago? Could AJ have a best friend who is really good with computers, and perhaps he’s in on all of this? Is Judy snooping? What about Jade? Could she have found a journal by mistake, but now she’s teaming with Cisco to do this? I don’t know, and I am on the edge of my seat!
AJ ends the call and the chapter is over. Oh my god, I am so excited to see what happens next I don’t know how I will compose myself. This is epic! I am confused, all the pieces I have known seem useless now, and I don’t have a clue as to who’s playing this game of chess, and/or cat and mouse. How will AJ get out of it? How will I be able to make it through what’s happening? I don’t know. I am so unprepared!
