Hello everyone! I’m thrilled to be here today at The Novel Approach to celebrate GRL 2014 and the upcoming release of Hell & High Water, the first book in my new contemporary-law enforcement-shifter series called the THIRDS. By the time GRL comes around, the first and second book in the series will be out, so expect some pretty cool THIRDS swag! Throughout the Hell & HIgh Water tour I’ll be introducing you to this exciting world and the agents who inhabit it.
The THIRDS sprang up from a series of ‘what-if’ questions after I started playing around with the idea of writing a shifter series. I knew right away I wanted to make the THIRDS world as realistic as possible. So the questions began. What if humanity was responsible for the birth of this new and advanced species? What if this new species wasn’t hidden from the world, but a part of it? I brainstormed ways this could be possible and began my research into history with the knowledge I wanted the event that started it all to be fairly recent.
Where did these shifters—Therians, as they’re refereed to in the series—originate? What could Humanity possibly have done? Here’s a little sneak peek from the Hell & High Water prologue:
During the Vietnam War, the use of lethal biological warfare led to the spread of the Melanoe virus, infecting millions worldwide and causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Although no country would take credit for releasing the virus, the world’s top scientists came together to create a cure. The vaccine known as Eppione.8 used strains from animals found to be immune to the virus, but one year after distribution, the course of human history was forever changed. A dormant mutation within the virus was activated by the vaccine, resulting in the altering of human DNA, and giving birth to a new species: Therians.
There’s a lot more to it than what’s in that snippet, the rest of which you’ll get in the remaining prologue, through the rest of the book, and the series. Once I knew where Therians had come from, more questions followed, all of which helped me build the THIRDS world which I’ll get into on the second stop of the tour.
How would the Human race react to no longer being at the top of the food chain? Therians are stronger, faster, and more resilient than Humans, and when in their Therian (animal) form, far more lethal. With a new species, society as a whole would change. New laws would need to be written which meant new branches of government. And that’s where the Therian Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron comes in. Follow along the tour to find out more about the THIRDS, team Destructive Delta and its agents! You can also visit the shiny new THIRDS website to find out more! You can even take the Destructive Delta quiz to find out which agent you are!

Action. Comedy. Romance. And that one weird guy.
When homicide detective Dexter J. Daley’s testimony helps send his partner away for murder, the consequences—and the media frenzy—aren’t far behind. He soon finds himself sans boyfriend, sans friends, and, after an unpleasant encounter in a parking garage after the trial, he’s lucky he doesn’t find himself sans teeth. Dex fears he’ll get transferred from the Human Police Force’s Sixth Precinct, or worse, get dismissed. Instead, his adoptive father—a sergeant at the Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron otherwise known as the THIRDS—pulls a few strings, and Dex gets recruited as a Defense Agent.
Dex is determined to get his life back on track and eager to get started in his new job. But his first meeting with Team Leader Sloane Brodie, who also happens to be his new jaguar Therian partner, turns disastrous. When the team is called to investigate the murders of three HumaniTherian activists, it soon becomes clear to Dex that getting his partner and the rest of the tightknit team to accept him will be a lot harder than catching the killer—and every bit as dangerous.

Hi Shirley Ann! Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy reading about Dex and the fellas! :D
Hey, love your books, added your new ones to my shelf and to answer your question I love all types of men for heros. They can range from the Alphas to the geeks as long as they are beautiful on the inside, family oriented, compassionate and such they’re a hero as far as I’m concerned. Lol
Hi laurel! Thank you so much! Great answer! And thank you so much for joining in on the blog tour!
Geeks! long live the geeks!
Hi Aine! I do love’ em! Thank you so much for joining in!
Still really excited for this!!
Yay! Hi Sarina! I’m so glad to hear that! And thank you for joining in on the tour! :D
Ooooh, one of my favorite authors on one of my favorite blogs!!!! You ladies just Made My Day!!!!! :) I’m SO looking forward to this release Charlie. I love alpha males, especially ones who are imperfect. I love a good story line that engages my heart and your characters always deliver!
Thank you so much, Carly! Imperfect Alphas are a weakness of mine, I admit. Thank you so much for joining in! :D
I already pre-ordered this one! Can’t wait to read it – sounds like it will be an amazing series.
Thank you so much, Lisa! I hope you enjoy it! <3
I’m all about the anti-heros. I’m a sucker for a bad boy, plus I love the chance of redemption. This series sounds fantastic. Added to my TBR shelf!
Ooh, I LOVE me some bad boys. ;) I’m with you on that! Thanks for stopping by, Michelle!
Thanks for the post and giveaway. I have the new books on my TBR shelf. For the question from Rafflecopter – I enjoy all kinds of heroes, but have a special place in my heart for the geeks.
Hi Jen! So far the bad boys and geeks seem to be getting a lot of <3. So many great answers! Thank you so much!
Love your books! I’m a fan of all types of heroes (though I do seem to have a suspiciously high number of alpha’s on my bookshelf :-). Give me a hero with a little bit of complexity, an ability to use his brain as well as his brawn and the ability to care for others and I’m a happy reader!
Thank you so much! Complex characters are always high on my list. I love those tough guys who are softies inside. <3
So so so excited for this series. The excerpts have been amazing! I hope my paperback gets sent out quickly :) I have a feeling I’ll have the download read before it arrives though since I”m still waiting for Tequila Mockingbird from last Friday ;)
Hi Sadonna! I’m so glad you liked the excerpts. Hope you get your paperback soon. I’ll be waiting for mine too! ;)
How about a sweet geek partnered with a gorgeous alpha. I like them both. This book sounds great. The blurb (and the length) talked me into getting it. I can’t wait to dig in. :-)
Hi Barbra! I love partnering sweet characters with alphas. So much to explore there. Thank you so much! Hope you enjoy it! :D
alpha

I like the Alphas :)
Me too! ;) Thank you for dropping by! :D
Hey, Charlie! My copy is pre-ordered and my fingers are itching to hit the download button. Only 7 more days!! I like alphas and geeks but I’m a sucker for the sweet, unsure, awkward guy who doesn’t think he can get the guy he wants.
Hi Lynette! Aw, thank you so much! I’m certainly counting down the days!! I love sweet heroes. <3
I’m really looking forward to reading Hell & High Water. I like all different heros, though I’m a sucker for sweet heros and geeks. Thanks for the giveaway!
Hi Antonia! Thank you so much! It looks like geeky heroes are definitely a fave! And thank you so much for stopping by! :D
My taste in characters encompass a large spectrum of personalities/traits. I do like reading about alphas, but also underdogs like antiheroes and geeks, etc.
Hi HB! Great characters do indeed come in many flavors. Great choices! Thank you for stopping by! :D
I’m a fan of paranaormal/ fantasy stories so this series interests me. I like all kinds of heroes.

Hi Deborah! Thank you so much! And thank you for joining the tour! :D
This sounds like a really good book, can’t wait to read it! As for my favorite type of hero, I’m not very picky, but I do love paranormal alpha heroes.
