Blurb: Daniel Larson has walled himself off from any possibility of romance since his lover died violently five years ago in Afghanistan. The same bomb that ended his partner’s life took the lower part of Daniel’s left leg. The only support Daniel has, his Uncle Lawrence, is dead-set against anything homosexual, including Daniel.
Now, a popular language teacher at the local university, Daniel’s suffering from a car accident that broke his one good leg. His uncle, who is much better at throwing money at things than offering emotional support, provides a rented power chair and a private in-home nurse. Unbeknownst to his uncle, the nurse comes in the form of a man named Jonah Thacker.
Instantly attracted, Daniel and Jonah fight their mutual feelings in favor of professionalism. They become friends anyway, and Jonah shares his life with Daniel, including his handicapped son, Ethan. As Jonah and Daniel grow closer, Daniel becomes more involved in Jonah and his son’s lives, even being there for Ethan when his medical conditions worsen. But when Daniel’s uncle finds out the nurse he’s hired is male, he uses all of his resources to keep Jonah and Daniel apart.
Review: Living Again starts out with Daniel Larson waking up in the hospital where he finds out that on top of a broken arm and some broken ribs, he has also broken his only leg. This leaves him unable to get around on his own, so his Uncle has hired him a home care nurse. Daniel doesn’t have any illusions that he doesn’t need the help, but once he sees his hot nurse, he knows this is going to be pure torture.
As Daniel and Jonah start getting to know one another, Jonah opens up about his handicapped son ,and Daniel tells the story of his slain lover. Daniel and Jonah become great friends and soon begin a relationship, much to Uncle Lawrence’s anger. Unfortunately, Uncle Lawrence isn’t the only hurdle the two men have to overcome.
While the Daniel and Jonah are trying to overcome their differences in wealth, and Jonah’s reticence about starting a new relationship, they also have to worry about Jonah’s son Ethan. Ethan is a lovely little boy who takes everything in stride and has issues that would leave most adults I know crying in a corner. Daniel and Ethan get along great, and Daniel finds himself falling quickly for both Jonah and Ethan, but Jonah wants to go slowly with the relationship.
I truly liked the two MCs in this book and I liked watching their relationship change and grow, but I felt like the issues they were battling could have been resolved much quicker than they were. Jonah’s pigheaded side almost cost him everything, and Daniel almost let it. Thankfully, in the end, they got it all worked out and there was a HEA. Just as an FYI, though, if you don’t like “fade to black” love scenes and 100% off page sexual encounters, then this will not be the book for you.
