Blurb: Truth or dare.
Ever since superspy Cillian moved into Prophet’s building, their game of Steal the Couch has been funny to Prophet, but a thorn in Tom’s side. Then Prophet gets bored one night during an ice storm and insists on playing another simple game with Tom: Truth or Dare. In exchange for one of Prophet’s truths, Tom steals the couch one last time.
But Prophet’s truths are never easy—Tom should know that by now—and this one raises questions neither of them quite know how to answer. In response, Tom finds himself laying claim to Prophet in the most basic way he knows how. And also finds that he doesn’t mind it in the least when Prophet returns the favor.
Review: This is a short story in the Hell or High Water series, featuring Tommy and Prophet. It has to be read in order or you’ll miss some of the backstory around the things that happen.
How S.E. Jakes is able to pack such a sexy, yet emotional storyline in this few pages astounds me. Not Fade Away picks up after Tommy has moved in with Prophet and, of course, they end up playing a game of Truth or Dare. This ends up with Cillian’s couch being hijacked by Tommy, and then hot, sexy times with Prophet and Tommy ensue.
There really isn’t a furthering of the storyline in this short story. It’s actually more of a very intimate look at their relationship and the dynamics between them. It’s about the power plays and the ceding of control from one to the other, and the strong feelings that they may not express but constantly show each other. After the plot heavy previous book, this was just a really nice interlude with our favorite men.
There is a surprisingly erotic scene with them at a club involving nipples and piercings. I look forward to the next full length novel, If I Ever, to be released.
