Review: Burnin’ For You is a story about two first responders who find each other at the right point in their lives, thanks to fate. If you like a story that has two super hot, sensitive, uniformed men than this one is for you.
This story is about a relationship between two men, how they meet, how it progresses from a one-night-stand to a more permanent relationship but with some hiccups in the middle and eventually, to the happily-ever-after. There is a subplot of a crazed stalker and how the two deal with it but mostly, it’s about two hot guys—and yes, I mentioned that before.
The story opens up in a bar, where Lucas Taylor, a firefighter, is trying to forget the anniversary of his lover’s death, through a bottle. Lucas’s lover was also a firefighter and had died while they were both on the job. Lucas is wracked with guilt and can’t move on with his life. But this day, the only thing he wants is to get drunk and laid.
Evan Singer is an EMS paramedic. He’s at the same bar celebrating his new job. They literally bump into each other and it’s lust at first sight. They both only want a one night hookup, but they get more than they bargained for. Their hookup is beyond hot, and in the light of day Evan feels a connection, but Lucas is confused because it was only supposed to be a one night affair. He’s feeling more than that, even though he doesn’t want to.
Later, at work, Lucas is introduced to their new paramedic, and guess who it is? Evan is thrilled but Lucas, not so much, because of his past history. His rule is no dating another firefighter or paramedic, and here is the set up to all the emotional drama. The story follows the push and pull of their attraction, their dynamic at work and in bed. I believed in them as a couple. Evan was easy going but kept up his relentless pursuit of Lucas, or, rather, would not give up when Lucas constantly pushed him away. And right after sex, no less! In my opinion Lucas got too many passes in his treatment of Evan, but I guess my reaction stems from being drawn into the story. The book was very well written and moved at a steady pace.
Burnin’ For You is a very enjoyable story that left me satisfied and a little bit hot. But what do you expect when you have two hot heroes but to be burned?
