However, Aidan has something in common with Jon’s ex that could spoil any chance they have of making a life together.
Review: Kiss Yesterday Goodbye follows Jon and Aidan. Jon has been deeply hurt by a former lover, and Aidan has recently started his life over after his parents rejected him. We meet them on Aidan’s last day at Jon’s publishing company. Their relationship begins with a bold move from Aidan, who finally expresses his interest in Jon. From there the story takes off, Jon struggling to protect his damaged ego, and Aidan experiences a series of devastating events leaving him destitute.
I liked how the author created two characters who had personal flaws and issues they needed to work through. The conflicts propelled the story forward, and the ending provided satisfying vindication for both men.
I wish this story had been longer so the characters and events could’ve been more fleshed out. The two main characters hook up at the beginning, and their connection moves from attraction to infatuation/love almost immediately. Jon’s speed with letting his guard down undermined the build-up of his past hurt by a former lover. The conflict which arises occurs too quickly and is resolved with the same speed. This is the challenge of writing a short story. There isn’t time or space to fully develop characters and events. All in all, this was a fine read, something I would’ve enjoyed reading by a pool, in a waiting room, or when I had some time to kill before a prior engagement.
