Blurb: Alec “Red” Davis is Hercules Security’s director of operations, a man who is brave and honorable and yet also a stickler for following the rules. When Cade Thornton says that Alec is losing his touch, Alec takes a position as private bodyguard to Jonathan Baldwin, an up-and-coming actor starring in one of Hollywood’s hottest new franchises.

Jon is attractive, personable, and grateful for his fans, which, unfortunately, makes keeping him safe a real challenge. As Alec is drawn more and more into Jon’s life, he finds his admiration for his client growing — as well as an attraction which is strictly against his professional ethics. Unfortunately for Alec’s peace of mind, Jon finds Alec equally attractive, and Alec finds himself torn between duty and desire.

Then, while guarding Jon on an “adventure” vacation in Central America, a flash flood puts both their lives in danger. Alec finds himself pushed to his limits in a race against time to save the man he loves before time runs out — for both of them.

Review: In this second book of the Herc’s Mercs series, we get to meet Alec Davis and Jon Baldwin. Alec is a man who prides himself on being one hundred percent professional. He has never been attracted to any of his charges before, but his next assignment may turn out to be the exception to his rule.

Jon is an actor who stars both on the stage and silver screen. He is very appreciative of his fans and loves to put himself out there and meet them. This is the reason he can’t seem to keep a bodyguard on payroll.

When Alec shows up to guard Jon, he decides to try to find some kind of compromise so Jon can still interact with his fans but be kept safe at the same time. The biggest obstacle Alec has to overcome, though, just so happens to be his own attraction to Jon. Even though his boss found love on the job, Alec doesn’t believe he could keep Jon safe if he became too close to him.

Resistance is just about impossible the more Alec gets to know Jon, and he has decided to recuse himself from guarding Jon after they return from vacation, because he realizes he is in love with the man. A flash flood puts his plans on hold, however, when he has to put all of his skills to use to keep both of them alive. While in the jungle confessions are made by both men, and if they both survive, they could very well find themselves getting everything they have ever wanted.

I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying these books so far. Ari McKay has what could be the beginning of a fabulous series. The characters are well fleshed out, and I have found myself falling in love with each and every pairing she has put together. Though the books are on the shorter side, they cover enough ground to give me a whole story, and I can’t wait for the next pair of men from this author.
