Have you every started a story and just knew you’d enjoy the characters? This is one of those kinds of books for me. From the first page I was invested in the characters, in their stories and their journey. Cherry Pie is the story of two men who are both lost, alone and struggling with their own demons.
John moved to North Carolina after losing his long-term partner. Needing to get away from everything that was ‘theirs’, he buys the Meecham house, which needs a lot of hands on work, some paint, and someone that will cherish the home for years to come.
Conn Meecham comes back home to Mercury, North Carolina after more than 8 years of prison and a life he regrets. Everything around him has changed since he went in, including John owning his mother’s house.
These two men couldn’t be more different, yet in so many ways they’re very much alike. They’re both dealing with huge changes in their lives, including piecing their lives back together. This common tie pulls the two men together, along with their each being lonely, Conn needing a job and a place to live, and John needing help with putting the house back to rights.
This was a well-written, sweet, emotional and still very hot, character driven story. I really enjoyed both characters; however, I had a huge soft spot for Conn. I like ‘bad boys’, particularly reformed bad boys that find their way home. He was able to pull himself together, clean up his act and when he got home, nothing was left. His mom was gone, his home had been sold, and he had nowhere left to go. John and Conn were able to make a comfortable place for each of them to heal and fall in love with each other.
I thoroughly enjoyed their story and can’t wait to read the next in the series. I would recommend this for anyone that loves a good opposites attract story, or a story of two people that are lost and find a home with that special someone.
