Guest Post, Excerpt and Giveaway: Texas Fall by RJ Scott

Texas is now firmly over a quarter of a million words, actually with the addition of Texas Fall it is now a total of 310,000 words. There have been deaths, murders, adoption, surrogacy, abuse & bullying, autism, fires, plots, hidden papers and so many other plot lines woven into one.

But the one that started it all, way before all of these was Riley blackmailing Jack into marrying him. This is a brilliant romance trope and one I absolutely love. The idea that you don’t have a choice and are forced to marry, to then fall in love. It’s a trope that I loved in all the old Mills and Boon Silhouette books I read when I was younger.

And before the blackmail was even thought of I had a *Bad guy* (Gerald) stealing documents which caused Jack’s dad to become bitter… now that is a classic romance trope.

I love the friends to lovers trope, the brother of a sister type trope, the trapped in a cabin trope… hell, if it’s a romance trope I’ve probably read it and would still love to read it. And don’t get me started on the bad boys, and the heroes and the family members who need transplants. However you begin to write a book you can’t fail but use an idea that is based somehow on one of the classic tropes, so when you read a romance story, what is your favourite romance trope?

Texas Fall (Texas: Book Six): Jack is focusing on building an equine therapy school for children with special needs and works hard along side his normal horse training and breeding program. He and Riley have settled into a softer, quieter, kind of family life, but that doesn’t stop them using the barn with the door to the fullest!

But the lull comes before the storm.

Riley and his new assistant travel to Laredo, and across the border into Nuevo León as part of an exploratory team and things very quickly go to hell. Riley is caught in some serious Cartel problems and suddenly everything Jack holds dear is threatened.
Add in Vaughn and Darren’s story, revisiting Robbie, Eli, Liam and Marcus, alongside Sean and Eden and the wedding that never was, and this story promises you everything you want from a Texas series book.

Excerpt: “When do we leave?”

“Thursday? Gives us a couple days grace. And we were invited to stay at the Bar Five with the Castilles, but I turned them down. I know Hank isn’t there and Darren is running the show, but I’m not sure Liam would be ready for that yet.”

“He’s stronger than we think,” Robbie defended.

“He’s…” Jack couldn’t think of the words. “Brittle,” he finished. “Like he’s close to snapping.”

“Wouldn’t you? Going up against the man who abused you as a kid and the one who attacked you as an adult?”

“Yeah, and that’s the hard side of it all. He’s spending so much time being okay that actually underneath it all, he’s far from it.”

“We’ll keep an eye on him.”

Jack nodded and scratched Mistry behind the ear, earning himself another nudge. She loved affection, this one.

Yes, they’d look after Liam. They would make sure Liam was taken care of and that they came away from Laredo with some kind of justice for the young cowboy.

Author Bio: RJ Scott has been writing since age six, when she was made to stay in at lunchtime for an infraction involving cookies. She was told to write a story and two sides of paper about a trapped princess later, a lover of writing was born.
