Does size really matter?
Get your mind out of the gutter, folks!
I’m talking about the length of your holiday stories not wieners!!
LOL
So back to the question, does the size of a holiday book effect whether or not you purchase or read it? Do you like short stories, novellas, or novels? All of the above? Or do you not care at all?
For me, it really depends on my mood or the time I have to devote to a book.
When writing my NAUGHTY NORTH POLE books, I intentionally keep them on the shorter side because the holidays can be so busy that a sexy quickie is sometimes all you have time for. Well, that and every time I write a book they either come in under 20K like my latest NAUGHTY NORTH POLE book EVERYBODY HATES FRUITCAKE, or knocking on 90K’s door like EASY RYDER. It is tough for me to find that middle ground of 50k sometimes, but hey, you never know. I may hit it eventually.
When it comes to reading, however, my lifestyle dictates that the shorter books usually get read first. With two full time jobs, the luxury of getting lost in a full length novel is rare. Usually a story under 30k is great for me because I can read it in one sitting. If it’s a long book and I am in to it, I will also read it in one sitting…hence my avoidance of long books during the holidays, LOL
What about you guys? Do you have a preference? Does size really matter to you?
I would love to hear from you.
One lucky commenter will win one of the previous four NAUGHTY NORTH POLE books of their choice. Winner will be drawn Sunday December 7th

Author Bio: Deanna Wadsworth might be a bestselling erotica author, but she leads a pretty vanilla life in Ohio with her wonderful husband and a couple adorable cocker spaniels. She has been spinning tales and penning stories since childhood, and her first erotic novella was published in 2010. When she isn’t writing books or brainstorming with friends, you can find her making people gorgeous in a beauty salon. She loves music and dancing, and can often be seen hanging out on the sandbar in the muddy Maumee River or chilling with her hubby and a cocktail in their basement bar. In between all that fun, Deanna cherishes the quiet times when she can let her wildly active imagination have the full run of her mind. Her fascination with people and the interworkings of their relationships have always inspired her to write romance with spice and love without boundaries.

Blurb EVERYBODY HATES FRUITCAKE: Ivan has the bad luck to be the only elf at the naughty North Pole with fruitcake-flavored cum—and he’s not telling anyone. When fellow elf Jimmy hits on him, Ivan fears revealing his secret and losing a chance to have a real relationship with the sexy elf.
After all, everybody hates fruitcake!
Danni’s wife Sheila is the Head Chef at the North Pole. Unfortunately, while Sheila hunts for the perfect recipe for fruitcake, she neglects her wifely duties. So when Ivan tells Danni about his dilemma, she devises a plan to solve both of their problems.
Can these two girls help Ivan realize he is perfect just the way he is? Will Danni’s wife perfect her fruitcake recipe with Ivan’s special ingredient? But most importantly, will Ivan have the courage to take Jimmy up on his offer?
EXCERPT: A soft hand caressed mine. “Why don’t you like Jimmy?”
Naturally, Danni wouldn’t let it drop. “It’s not that,” I answered. “I like him a lot, actually. That’s the problem.”
She shook her head, her long black ponytail swaying. “That makes absolutely no sense.”
“Of course you don’t get it.” I brushed a lock of silky black hair off her brow. Her bangs were always falling in her eyes, and she didn’t flinch from my familiarity. “You’re perfect.”
Grinning, she said, “Well, that’s obvious. But it still doesn’t explain why you say you like Jimmy, yet you ignore all his advances.”
“Because I don’t know if I should do anything about it. He’ll just end up being disappointed.”
“I’m still going to go with, that makes absolutely no sense.” She gave me a head to toe once over. I managed a smile when she tipped back to take in my ass and give me a whistle—she was such a flirt. “You’re gorgeous, Ivan. And you’re funny. You forget I’ve seen you take care of those pathetic earthbound reindeer.”
“They’re not pathetic.”
“See what I mean? All the other Dökkálfar in the stables prefer to work with the flyers. But not you. You’re kind and patient. A real caregiver. So I ask you, what would Jimmy have to be disappointed about?”
I squirmed in my seat, unsure if I should tell her, but desperately wanting to. I had not breathed a word of it since I’d arrived, preferring to have my choice of lovers, rather than be laughed at like I had been in my hometown. But something about the sincerity, the kindness in Danni’s brown eyes made me feel like I should trust her. Like it was finally time to tell someone the truth.
“Because I taste like fruitcake.”

Loved the blurb and excerpt! Who would have thought about fruitcake?! As for size, sometimes I’m just not in the mood to read a full length novel, especially when I know there will be lots of angst and tissues needed.
A well constructed short can be very satisfying! And as you say, at this time of year a long story tends to difficult to get time for so yes, holiday shorts are best! Light, fruity and sweet – perfect!
I like stories that are both short and long. It depends on my mood and how much time I have read at the moment. Shirt books can be just as satisfying as a long one. Thanks for the excerpt and fun post.
Generally, I prefer novella- or novel-length stories, but at holiday time, a shorter story can be just right. Thanks for the post and contest. The newest addition to the series sounds great and I love the covers on all the books.
It always depends on my mood as to what I read. Thank you so much for the post.
I really enjoyed A Gift for Santa and liked the size of the story as being just right with the plot and characters.
My preference is to read a novel length story, as they are often more involved, but even so I have enjoyed reading shorter tales. The only problem with shorter tales, and quite often with longer stories, as well is that I often to want to read more about the characters and their story. So its helpful when the shorter stories form part of a series and you get a cameo or mention on how a character is, as well as new story or a minor character mentioned in another book.
Thank you for a chance to win a book from this series :)
I usually prefer the longer stories. I think I would like the holiday short stories, but I checked one out today that sounded good, and it was $3.99 for 58 pages. It would cost a fortune to pay that much for something that short because I could easily read 3 or 4 per day.
I generally prefer novels or novellas, but sometimes I’m in the mood for a short story. Thanks for sharing the excerpt!
I’ve had my eye on this series for a while. Please count me in for the giveaway. Thank you ^^
I really do not care if a story comes into a short story, novella of full novel form. As long as it is good, I am willing to read it. Sometimes, after a long and demanding book I feel like something shorter and faster. But another long book engages my attetion… Here we go again!
Thanks for the excerpt and the giveaway. I haven’t read any of these books but they sound great.
I read all lengths of books. I do not, however, eat fruitcake, but do know some who love it.
I usually prefer longer stories because because I hate to let go of characters and plots I’ve come attached to while reading, and I commute 40-50 minutes each day by train to and from work, so I have the time. But the best holiday stories I’ve read have actually all been novella length stories so I enjoy shorter stories as well.
I loved A Gift for Santa! As a writer, I tend to like reading shorter stories only because of the time factor. I do read novels, but they really have to spark my interest or come highly recommended. I’ve discovered a lot of great authors by reading their shorter stuff…so I see it as a win win for both me AND the author! :-)
Cheers, everyone! Thanks for participating in Deanna’s Naughty North Pole backlist giveaway. The contest is closed and the winner’s been drawn. An e-copy of one of the 4 previous series titles is
