Hi, I’m so happy to be here! Thanks for having me. I’ve decided to take this opportunity to talk about Sol’s Solstice and why I wrote it. First, I want to share the tagline: Sol finds that light can indeed shine in his world.
Sol’s Solstice is a contemporary romance, but it is not all happiness and light. Sol faces terrible obstacles. Some of them stem from the way his family handles his mother’s mental illness, some from the religious right, and others from the flawed perceptions of ordinary people. It would have been easy to pretend these people don’t exist, but we know they do. But just as there are people who fail to do good, there are those who will stop, and hold out their hand.
Just as The Good Samaritan is famed for being one of the publicly ostracized yet stopping to help a stranger in need that he met on the street, Seth’s legacy is one of love and hope. Coming across Sol by nearly hitting him with his car, he doesn’t look away from what is before him. He sees a human being in need, and offers him help. He sees a person in need of comfort, and gives him that. he sees someone who desperately needs a champion, and he becomes that too. From such basic love of a fellow human being, Seth and Sol forge a deep bond of love.
My hope is that readers will not only enjoy their love story, but take away the knowledge that sometimes, that random act of kindness changes the world for someone. I hope that the Sols out there will find hope, knowing that out there, a light is shining. They just have to keep going until they can come across it. I want everyone to come away feeling a sense of joy, knowing that love can indeed conquer all.
