Review: I have been a loyal reader of Jacob Z. Flores for a while now. I love his books that have a funnier slant, his angsty “rip-your-heart-out” love stories, and his dystopian story as well. I am not usually seduced by a book cover. Normally I couldn’t care less what a cover looks like. When I saw the cover of this book, though, I was mesmerized. I just HAD to read the story that inspired that cover, and I am so very glad I did.

Santi and Hank’s story is told through the first person narrative in the present, and through flashbacks. I know flashbacks don’t always work for some people, but this time they really, really did. I’d swear I could feel the love pouring off the pages of this book, not to mention the heat that these two men generated between them.

I can’t imagine having the person I planned to spend the rest of my life with wake up in a hospital and not have a single clue who I am. The pain and heartache it would cause is just not something I have ever come close to experiencing. The author did a fabulous job of getting Santi’s emotions across clearly, and I found myself crying for him on more than one occasion.

Over the course of the book we get to see them both before and after Hank lost his memories. Their beginning was magical, but the hurts Santi went through during the aftermath really tore at my heart. Thinking the man you love with everything in you believes he is in love with someone else…ugh, GUTTED.

With some very entertaining secondary characters, this story was a total hit for me. I love a love story and this was definitely love. A story like this makes me believe in love and second chances and all the reasons I like to read romance novels. Finding perfection once is a gift, twice it’s a miracle. Mr. Flores has made me believe in miracles.
