Sue Brown: On the M/M Romance group on Facebook there is an extended thread about male and female/LGBT and straight authors. On the whole it’s a very positive thread and a great one to be involved in. I enjoyed talking to people I don’t normally connect with.
One of the topics was the difference between male and female authors in their style of writing sex. It’s impossible to generalise because there are always exceptions. For instance there are many guys who write sweet romance or romance stories with no sex at all. But I do see a difference in the way men and women write sex/lovemaking – whatever you care to call it.
I admit that as time has gone on I write less sex and more headspace. I’m interested in what makes people tick. A while ago an author in our genre took me to task over this. Men are interested in physical, not mental needs. I understand where they were coming from. However, I’ve read women authors’ sex scenes that make me wriggle and male authors’ sex scenes that were beautifully sweet. The terminology didn’t matter. It was the skill of the author writing the scene that mattered.
And that’s what it boils down to. I’ve read so many different brilliant authors, and I don’t care how they write the sex scenes. If they write it well, I’m hooked.

“Why are you doing this?” Ed asked, bewildered.
“Doing what?”
“Telling me what to do all the time. Giving me orders.”
Marchant smiled. “Because you like it. You respond so well when I give you an order.”
“I’m a grown man. A manager. I give the orders, not take them.”
“And it hurts your soul. Anyone can see that. You are born to serve.”
Ed shook his head so hard he felt it was in danger of toppling off. “I’m not a child, and I’m not a servant.”
“I don’t play with children, Ed. I play with men.”
About the Author: Sue Brown is owned by her dog and two children. When she isn’t following their orders, she can be found plotting at her laptop. In fact she hides so she can plot and has got expert at ignoring the orders.
