Review: I requested this book because a friend suggested I read Jackie Nacht’s books. She went on to tell me this author’s stories were witty and had great character development, just my kind of story.
The first time I read Chipmunk Drizzled in Honey, I thought, what the heck, a chipmunk and a bear shifter? You gotta be kidding. It seemed way too far-fetched, even for a reader like me, who enjoys shifter stories. My understanding of a series is the author will start building the storyline in book one, and continue building throughout the series. A reader/reviewer should maybe not start on book three, and then review the book expressing surprise over the storyline the author has created. And I would feel really guilty about that if I didn’t enjoy the book so much.
Imagine, if you will, a chipmunk in your yard, always looking around with quick jerky movements, talking a mile a minute and swishing their tails around, because you know they do have beautiful tails. Replace that especially busy chipmunk with the character of Nikko, and to my surprise, you have a believable character. The same goes for Dallas and the rest of the characters in the town of White Pines. It works!
Sometimes, we need a short book, maybe for an afternoon at the beach or a bath with lots of bubbles. Chipmunk Drizzled in Honey is a perfect fit. The story reads like I imagine a chipmunk would write, if a chipmunk could write. I like books that make me smile and shake my head; without a doubt, this book does all that and more. If you want a more in-depth story, though, I suggest you read the first two books in the series, enjoy life, and chew on a honey stick. Sounds good to me.
