The Novel Approach is please to welcome back Rick R. Reed on the Dinner at Fiorello’s blog tour. Rick came up with a playlist that fits the setting of the book, and might even make you want to mangia Italiano for dinner! Be sure to click on the Rafflecopter widget below, as well, for the chance to win an e-copy of his book Dinner at Home.
Good luck!
When you have dinner at Fiorello’s, you’re gonna get three things:
- Good food
- Good wine
- Good music
If you’re lucky, you’re also gonna find a little atmosphere that might lead to some amore, you know?
While the food teases your palate, and the wine makes you fuzzy and warm, there’s gonna be music underneath it all. Here’s what you might hear on any night when you stop by Fiorello’s for a plate of macaroni and red gravy and maybe, just maybe, the capture of someone special’s eye.
(Note: It’s worth it to go on YouTube, iTunes or Amazon and just listen to these songs…you’ll be doing yourself a favor, especially if you pour yourself a nice Chianti.)
DINNER AT FIORELLO’S PLAYLIST
- Scenes from an Italian Restaurant (Billy Joel). Hey, it’s a natural for the list! And that, Billy Joel, he’s a good boy.
- Italian Wedding Tarantella. If you’ve ever been to an Italian wedding, either as a guest or the guest-of-honor, you know this one.
- O Mio Babbino Caro (from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi): Opera and Italian food go hand in hand.
- Se Dolce Suoni (from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermore) Love, tragedy, high notes and opera all go together so well…this one should be listened to during the appetizer course.
- Mambo Italiano (Rosemary Clooney). Hey paisano, take my advice: learn how to mambo!
- That’s Amore (Dean Martin). And what else, really, is there?
- The Way You Look Tonight (Frank Sinatra). Vito and/or Henry could have sung Ol’ Blue Eye’s song of love the moment they first laid eyes on the other.
- Innamorata (Jerry Vale). Vale and Veal…perfect accompaniments to romance?
- Theme from The Godfather (London Philharmonic Orchestra) If you’re lucky, the object of your affection will make you an offer you can’t refuse.
- Love Theme from Cinema ParadisoThe gorgeous music by Ennio Morricone is perfect for dessert…in or out of the restaurant, if you catch my meaning.
Do you have an Italian classic you’d add to the playlist? Come on, tell me what it is! But I won’t dance, don’t ask me.
BLURB: Henry Appleby has an appetite for life. As a recent high school graduate and the son of a wealthy family in one of Chicago’s affluent North Shore suburbs, his life is laid out for him. Unfortunately, though, he’s being forced to follow in the footsteps of his successful attorney father instead of living his dream of being a chef. When an opportunity comes his way to work in a real kitchen the summer after graduation, at a little Italian joint called Fiorello’s, Henry jumps at the chance, putting his future in jeopardy.
Years ago, life was a plentiful buffet for Vito Carelli. But a tragic turn of events now keeps the young chef at Fiorello’s quiet and secretive, preferring to let his amazing Italian peasant cuisine do his talking. When the two cooks meet over an open flame, sparks fly. Both need a taste of something more—something real, something true—to separate the good from the bad and find the love—and the hope—that just might be their salvation.
