Blurb: Young mechanic Andrew Campbell’s life couldn’t be better. He is about to restore a Ford Mustang with his dad before heading off on the ultimate cross-country road trip with his best friend, Tanner McKenzie.
But tragedy strikes, and Andrew’s life is shattered. Worried his family will be torn apart if he doesn’t step in, Andrew makes a tough choice between following his heart and doing what he needs to do to protect his little brother.
When Andrew pushes Tanner away, Tanner heads off on the planned trip alone. Once Tanner leaves town, his life takes a different path, and it’s ten years before he returns. Now a firefighter, he’s never forgotten his first love, and no one has ever taken Andrew’s place in his heart. He’s determined to see if Andrew feels the same way. He just hopes Andrew’s excited to see him, hopes that he’s available—and finally out—after all this time.
They might not have been ready to deal with emerging feelings years ago, but now might be the time for their second chance at love.
Review: It wasn’t long ago that I got to read and review Charlie’s Hero by Nic Starr, which I loved. It was the first book I had read by this author, and I couldn’t wait to read more, so you can imagine how excited I was when Andrew’s Promise came up for review. We got a quick glimpse at Andrew and Tanner in the first book, which made the wait for this book a little brutal (and I honestly didn’t have to wait that long, but it sure felt like it).
In this book we get a lot of back story; we learn more about Andrew and Josh’s dad, go through what happened when he passed away, and what ultimately happened between Andrew and Tanner that has kept them apart for the last ten years. I have mixed feelings about all the backstory. Do I think it made me understand things better? Yes, I felt closer to the characters, it answered all kinds of questions and, like the first book, it is wonderfully written. So, why mixed feelings? Well, it’s not that I thought there was too much backstory, because I enjoyed it, but I really would have liked more of them present day than we got. And not that the present day part of the story was really lacking in any way, I think maybe I am just greedy and wanted more, which I guess, depending on how you look at it, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. :)
In the end we are left with a happy, loving couple, and a wonderful segue for the next book (which I will of course be impatiently waiting for)!
