A Stronger, Better, Faster, More New Years!
Thanks for letting us drop in for a little New Year’s party here at The Novel Approach! We decided to do some drinks based on our guys, Beau Warren and Vel Chandrasekhar, the heroes of our new book, Stronger, Better, Faster, More. Alcoholic and virgin, something for everyone! … Well most everyone. They try so hard, though.
While Beau spends most of the book drinking water and beer (or milk – thanks, Vel), one detail that was glossed over was that, like any good Southern boy, Beau’s fridge is always stocked with a pitcher of sweet iced tea. For the uninitiated, iced tea tends to be the beverage of choice around here — cold, sweet, and with a kick of caffeine to get you through those 102 degree days with 80% humidity. Growing up, my family easily went through a gallon a day.
So, naturally, Beau’s cocktail had to be inspired by this. Just mix iced tea, moonshine, and a splash of lemonade. Or, if you weren’t able to get moonshine from your uncle’s neighbor’s second cousin, forgo the lemonade and try some lemon flavored moonshine. Best served in an old jelly jar over ice with a slice of lemon.
For something non-alcoholic, Beau would want to get fancy with it to make it special. Mix iced tea (unsweetened, in this case) with some pomegranate juice and a pure blueberry juice like R. W. Knudsen’s. (Or just get some concentrate blueberry-pomegranate blend, we won’t tell.) Add some blueberries in for a nice touch, and serve over ice. Or just use frozen blueberries and don’t risk watering down your drink.
Vel’s alcoholic drink, he’ll make for others but won’t drink himself–because superspeed. Want to feel awesome like him, though? Try an EXCITABULL. Yes, it’s a thing. Start with some cranberry juice and Red Bull–then drop in peach schnapps and vodka. It’s fruity, it’s pretty, and it’s jacked on caffeine– “Just like me,” says Vel!
New Years parties don’t need alcohol to be fun, though. For something sparkly and entertaining (again “Just like me!” says Vel), his favorite starts with fruit in the cups–pineapple, strawberry, kiwi is a nice colorful selection. Then go with ⅓ soda water, ⅓ sparkling apple juice, and ⅓ fruit juice of your choice. Tropical fizz in the dead of winter? Make sure to serve in a festive glass. Yes please. Happy New Year!
Blurb: Stronger, Better, Faster, More
When he gets super-endurance powers out of nowhere, being a culinary student and kids’ soccer coach isn’t enough for Beau Warren–he has to be a superhero too. A sweet, hardworking trans man from a close knit family, it’s important to Beau to use his new abilities to stand up for people who can’t protect themselves. When he runs into a speedster at a fire rescue, he doesn’t expect it to be his high school crush, Vel Chandrasekhar. Turns out Vel got superspeed when Beau go his endurance, so they decide to make their single supe act into a duo.
With their immediate attraction and superpowered libidos, it’s not long before Beau and Vel are roommates-with-benefits. That’s the idea, anyhow, if only Beau can keep from falling back into his old crush hard, since Vel’s self-esteem issues have left him skittish about relationships. Just when things are at boiling point between them, though, their search for their own superhero origin story leads them and their families into mortal danger. The only way to survive the truth is to depend on each other–and admit they’re a lot more than friends.

This sounds like so much fun! I was attracted to the title, which reminded me of The Six Million Dollar Man, and the cover with someone who looked Indian (and now I’ve learned that he is, yay!). It’s great to have diverse characters as protagonists, and I’m glad Beau is trans, too. Thanks for sharing about this book!
sounds like a fun read
