Guest Post and Video Interview: The Imperfection of Swans by Brandon Witt

Imperfection of Swans Banner

I’m so pleased to welcome author Brandon Witt to The Novel Approach today, with a very special video interview to celebrate the upcoming release of his new novel, The Imperfection of Swans. This never-before-aired chat between Brandon and his best friend Kevin happens to revolve around Kevin being the inspiration for the story. So sit back, relax and enjoy both the interview and the blooper reel too.

Dividers

Wedding dresses, wedding cakes, hot ex-husbands, controlling mothers, witches on Broadway, and gorgeous Boston Brownstones all come to life in three days in The Imperfection of Swans.

I can’t tell you how excited I am for you all to read this story.  For so many reasons.  It’s my first novel after I quit a 15-year teaching career, and I’m hopeful of being able to afford groceries.  LOL.  I’m totally kidding.  (Actually, no, not really kidding.)  The book is inspired, though not biographical, by my best friend, who is the beautiful man on the cover.  Writing is always personal.  Always.  Even when I write about Vampires and Fairies.  When you put a book out into the world, you truly let everyone judge your soul.  However, that is even truer on books like this one, where there is such a huge personal connection to the subject matter.  It’s a scary thing to have written it.  And from my BFF’s perspective, it’s even scarier to have been the topic.  Instead of writing a ton to tell you about the novel, we thought it would be fun for you get to hear about it straight from the horse’s mouth (the very pretty, Italian horse).  In the clip, Kevin fills us in on what it’s like to be the inspiration for a book and seeing his face on the cover, as well as his thought processes and hopes on letting the world see his struggles with anxiety and an eating disorder.  He’s not only pretty, he’s brave.

As a special treat, we’ve also included a blooper real for your enjoyment.   Get two best friends together, a cute puppy, a video camera, and a bottle of wine, and you’re guaranteed some chuckles.

We hope you enjoy both of the videos and The Imperfection of Swans, out January 18, 2016.

THE INTERVIEW:

THE BLOOPERS:

Dividers

The Imperfection of SwansBlurb: Kevin Bivanti’s dream is to open a wedding dress shop, a place with the stunning gowns to make every bride-to-be feel adored. At thirty-eight, he quits a successful advertising career to buy an old brownstone in a trendy Boston neighborhood and to make his dream a reality. When one of his cosigners drops out, fate intervenes, ushering in Casper James, who hopes to open his own bakery. With Casper willing to take the risk, their ambitions meld into a wedding dress and wedding cake boutique.

Extensive renovations to the brownstone, an affair with his ex-husband, family drama with his mothers, and the anxiety of significant life changes push Kevin to the brink of a nervous breakdown. In the midst of stress and uncertainty, Casper becomes more than a business partner, a mutual attraction that adds another layer of intensity and risk.

With their dreams on the verge of reality, Kevin and Casper must find the courage to face the stress of managing their attraction, the gamble of a new business venture, and the resurgence of Kevin’s personal demons.

Author BioBrandon Witt’s outlook on life is greatly impacted by his first eighteen years of growing up gay in a small town in the Ozarks, as well as fifteen years as a counselor and special education teacher for students with severe emotional disabilities. Add to that his obsession with corgis and mermaids, then factor in an unhealthy love affair with cheeseburgers, and you realize that with all those issues, he’s got plenty to write about…
