The Women of Whippersnapper

Behind every gay man is at least one straight female best friend. Friendship comes easy for gay men and straight women. We aren’t hitting on each other or competing for the same men. We share common interests, and therefore, have a lot to talk about.

The relationship between a gay man and his straight girlfriends is special. She doesn’t mind when he looks better in her clothes than she does. We’re talking real love here, folks.

Tellumo Magnamater and Oliver Crumbly are gay men from different generations who see each other at the Fit as a Fiddle gym. Peggy Tucker, a middle-aged widow who is desperate to marry again, sees them there too, and with no idea that they’re gay, sets her sights on Oliver. Hilarity ensures.

Peggy wiggled her way into my May-September romance and into my heart. You’ll see—she’ll win you over too.

My straight female friends are like sisters to me. They are strong women who keep me honest and never hesitate to tell me what they really think. That’s why I love them so much. They are the inspiration for the friends of Tellumo, Oliver, and Peggy.

Tellumo leans on bestie Melody Abshire and his mothers, Trish and Jules Magnamater.

Former coworker Janice Downey and childhood friend Letty O’Mara keep Oliver Crumbly in line. Until she meets Tellumo, Peggy’s friends are all members of the Trinity Baptist Church.

Yes, Whippersnapper revolves around the relationship between Tellumo and Oliver. Peggy’s interest in Oliver is fueled entirely by her optimism and wishful thinking. They end up having more in common than membership at the Fit as a Fiddle gym.

LENGTH: 220 Pages

RELEASE DATE: January 29, 2016
BLURB: Tellumo Magnamater is a fresh-out-of-college, first-year English teacher at Salt Lick County High School in Kentucky. He rides the bus to and from work, and every day he walks to the gym behind his small efficiency apartment to exercise. Perhaps because of being raised by two lesbians, Tellumo is attracted to older men. He sets his sights on fifty-something available bachelor Oliver Crumbly. But Tellumo isn’t the only resident interested in Oliver.

Peggy Tucker, a widow approaching her sixtieth birthday, is determined to marry again, and she thinks Oliver is her perfect match. Despite Tellumo and Peggy striking up a friendship at the gym, neither realizes they are interested in the same man. But the joke might be on both of them. Oliver, a retired history teacher, is the original crotchety old man who hates everything and everybody—especially young people.

  1. I enjoyed your post. My mom has a close friend who is a gay man. It was fun to see my Pentecostal Christian parents come to love and respect someone their religion taught them to dislike (too meek a word probably). Fortunately, when they look at him now they see a friend and the son they never had – no longer “my gay friend.” The book sounds great. It is definitely going on my TBR. Thanks for the giveaway.

  2. Nice post! Friendship is something to be cherished. I don’t have a gay friend but I’m happy with the friends I have now, they have helped me a lot when I feel down.
Congrats on the book, I love age-gap stories!
